Apologies for deleting your previous post, which had exactly the same title and I assumed a multi-post like you did with the Concorde thread on the History section. If you do want to add detail to an existing post then please use the "modify" button. If you want to further respond in the thread then use "Reply", but please don't start a new thread. For info, the flypast of 40 aircraft (which brings down the curtain on the RN's "Fly Navy 100 celebrations) is due to take place at 2pm on Friday 23rd October. The carrier is due to stay from 22-27th Oct. The Daily Post states "around 40 current and historic helicopters, jets (including two Harriers) and prop-driven aircraft...." ...."The formation, tiered at different heights, will fly along the Mersey from south to north, passing over the carrier at the Cruise Liner Berth at 2pm...." Pity I go away the day before Cheers, Dave (PS could I also ask you to check your caps lock key....messages all in caps is considered shouting and rude on the internet believe it or not!)

There have been a number of different dates flying around for the 'Fly Navy 100' Flypast over the River Mersey. Thanks to Dave's post I've realised that I have been planning a late season break to fit around the wrong date!
Upto 40 aircraft and helicopters so far away from base will be quite a logistical event. Having watched a formation flypast of this size for this event at the RNAS Yeovilton Air Show, it will quite possibly include boxes of 4 each of Grob Tutors, T-67 Fireflys, Squirrel helicopters as well as Jetstream, Falcon 20, Commando, Merlin, Sea King, Lynx, Hawk and Harrier. Maybe also Seafire, Wasp and Sea Hawk to provide the historical context. Will be quite an event.

The figure of 40 aircraft in the flypast sound good. However, I wonder if this number is realistic so far away from home (RNAS Yeovilton/Culdrose), even though some participants may operate from the carrier deck.
Another reason to caution my anticipation, is that at one of their home bases (Yeovilton) during the major Navy Air Day in July the 'Navy 100' formation flypast 'balbo' only numbered 35 aircraft. The formation commenced with a Chipmunk, Seafire and Wasp (the Sea Hawk was grounded with a fault). These were followed by a Royal Marine Lynx, 4 x RN Lynx, 2 x VT Grob Tutors, 4 x Babcock T-67M Firefly, 4 x Merlin, 4 x Sea King, 4 x Commando, 4 x DHFS Squirrels, 4 x FRADU Hawks, 2 x FRA Falcon 20, no Jetstreams, no Harriers.

No matter how many aircraft, it should still be an impressive site (weather permitting). Hopefully many of the participants will also use LPL. As the carrier will be berthed that day, it is extremely unlikely that any flight operations will occur direct from the carrier, although limited helo flights could be possible.

Confusion over the date for the flypast continues. I notice that Ian Allan's respected 'Aircraft' magazine (November Ed, published first week of October) have revised their date for the Mersey flypast from 23rd to the 24th October. Their display briefing povides the following detail: "The Royal Navy's visit to Liverpool is worthy of inclusion for being the last major public event marking the 'Fly Navy 100' theme and an interesting example of how the military can engage with the public outside of the traditional confines of airshows or open days. HMS Illustrious will be arriving in the City on the 22nd, docking alonside Liverpool Cruise Terminal. Illustrious will be receiving public visitors from 1000-1600 hours on the 25th & 26th. The Fly Navy 100 commemorative flypast, hopefully including the RNHFs Sea Fury (grounded so far this year), will be flown over the Mersey on the 24th. As with the River Thames event in Greenwich in May, a number of Navy helicopters will be performing demonstrations, including the Black Cats, who round off their season with displays on the 23rd, 24th & 25th." Elsewhere on p.96 states further info from: www.royalnavy.mod.uk My search of the FAA section of this extensive site could find no mention of a date for the flypast, although the visit of HMS Illustrious to the Mersey is confirmed. Can anyone 'in the know' confirm for certain which the date for the Fly Navy 100 flypast is, as I may have to change arrangements yet again in order to see it. Quite odd for date confusion so close to the event!

I/we are on a visit to RAF Shawbury on the 23rd October to "to get up close to aircraft including Merlin, Sea King, Lynx, Firefly, Chipmunk, Tutor, Swordfish, Jetstream and Squirrel " that will be involved in the above event. The visit is only open between 11:00hrs and 12:30hrs. Hope this helps. Regards Beemer.

Any one in the tower know? - or is there a notam perhaps - it's going to conflict with LPL traffic at some point.

Excert from the Shawbury e-mail
"RAF Shawbury is hosting aircraft involved in the Liverpool Navy 100 flypast to be held on 23rd October 2009." I have never seen so many versions of the times of the event, Liverpool Daily Post, 14:00hrs 23-10-09. Assoc. of Navy Officers, 17-10-09 Fleet air Arm Officers, 17-10-09 UK Show Review Friday 23-10-09 @ 12:30-14:00hrs. Liverpool Echo has it as Saturday 24th

Ship is Open To Visitors Sunday 25th and Monday 26th so I suspect the flypast to be 23rd. I think it was originally planned to be in a week earlier than what it is...
