Berlin Tegel flughafen (TXL),closes on june 2nd this year, and the new Willy Brandt Brandenburg international(BER),opens the next day, here is my tribute to Tegel,an airport I have flown in and out of many times over the years.Danke Tegel!
The almost 360 degree layout of the terminal and observation deck, makes Tegal one of the most visual airports for the observer.
One of the few German airports without a rail link,it was always intended, that a new airport would eventually replace Tegel,Templehof and Schonefeld.
Superb views and photos can be had from the excellent viewing deck, once you have found it that is!
The terminal inside view, this is the international wing.
The superb observation deck.
An old Berlin S bahn carridge, serves as a currywurst take away and restauarant, somehow I dont think will be going to Willy Brandt, mores the pity it was excellent value, and just outside the terminal.
Air Berlin are of course a major player at Tegel, and operate a hub focus ,with three daily waves.
Excellent take off shots can be had from the observation deck, with a/c rotating right in front of you.
Thanks for looking, these photos were taken last month whilst I had reason to be in Berlin,I hope to post some shots soon from the much loved Templehof, which is now a park, given to the people of Berlin, and the airfield although now closed, will never be built on,with the building listed, the same cannot however be said of Tegel, with no current definate plans on what it will become in the future, that will be an interesting one to follow.
best regards Calflier.
