Great news from wizz air at last something positive just what the doctor ordered, hope we can entice other airlines to come here and take on RYR,I know its a long shot but would love to see a more competitive game,I don't want RYR to leave, but would like to see them put under a little bit of pressure

Its great news and its great that Wizzair have remained committed to Liverpool. Hopefully we will see further growth from them and others. Would be great to see someone like Thomson even with just a token offering like we used to have

What would be great is Whizz begin a base here to offer some non eastern European destinations , to give LPL passengers some choice from EZY/FR and indeed fill gaps ? I'm thinking Gibraltar, Almeria, am I right in thinking these were well supported routes, sent up the M62 ? There maybe more ?

Probably in the wishful thinking box, Carl. Generally, easy, Ryanair and Wizz don't step on each other's toes and Wizz is building a nice operation to Eastern Europe from here, it may not be co incidental that Blue Air have chosen Liverpool as well. I still feel that big gap for us is in the packaged arena and as noted above, Thomson would be a good addition, even if that entails block seat booking on easyJet.

Yes agree with the package holiday gap, Thomson and Thomas Cook were here in the past, and others I think, lets hope they may come back as economy improves. I'm keeping fingers crossed on JetXtra as well ! We would all like to see a main line carrier back like KLM (big loss) for international connections but there is no shame in building on LCC if that's what LPL is best at.

And I just wonder whether the new easyJet base at Schipol could present an opportunity for additional daily rotations? Potential to attract more KLM customers without diluting easyJet yields.

Maybe ..must admit didn't know about Easyjets plans in AMS. I still think was a pity loosing KL..just from the onward conx potential and Liverpool as a city being connected to the world, however you never know ! Could never understand why drop Liverpool the launch..Manston !

That's a very definitive statement, Calflier. What makes you so certain, I seem to remember Carolyn McCall saying something along the lines that Liverpool reductions may haven been "overdone".

Sure they have been overdone--and she has been doing the overdoing--bet you my bunny that she does not increase traffic from an airport she clearly has a dislike for. As I said many months ago--having a manc in charge of Easyjet was never going to be good news for Liverpool. I hope we keep on the current path which is to grow steadily with new clients and friendly older ones.
--how many more airports do MAG need to control before they are in a strangling monopolist position and have to give them up a la BAO?--now that would be interesting as they obviously control too much of the market.--for our good that's sure.

I,dont mind be proved wrong, but I suspect, any new route annoucement from EZY,will be at the expense of a current route, thats pretty musch the way its been for about 3 or 4 years now,I doubt that it will change anytime soon!.

And the reason I suggested that it would be good to get a rotation from easyJet's new Amsterdam base is that it wouldn't be at the expense of a rotation from a based aircraft. Positive mental attitude fellas, try to be a little more glass half full and less glass half empty!

I would like to see that too,the Amsterdam route is currently enjoying very high load factors out of both Liverpool and Manchester I believe, but I am a realist,I just see EZY putting extra flights on the Manchester thats the way LPL,is being treated at the moment and thats hard for me to say as well!

I know this is way off topic, but Liverpudlians (of which I am not one) run themselves down too easily! Not surprising as the Echo only reports murders/ gang wars/ football issues. You may not be aware of the following over the last two days alone:
Williams & Glyns bank confirm 500 jobs at a site in Wavertree Peel confirm 500 jobs at the new Liverpool 2 docks Major warehouse letting in Knowsley (old DHL depot) which will create new jobs
Now all these people will be paid -probably not a King's ransome - but many of them will be wanting a holiday at some point. And they will all live in the airport catchment area. And I'm damn sure that the airport marketing team will be knocking on airline doors and telling them what's happening. Note also that a major development at the corner of Speke Hall Road and Speke Boulevard was resurrected today.
Lots of good news to shout about! Positive thinking brings positive results. Throw off that Echo mentality and let's talk about the great news from Wizz and Blue Air!
