Let's hope talk of ronaldsway losing Flybe on other boards is premature. Down to just 4 airlines then and possibly 3 from March!

If FlyBe cut back masively then someone from the IoM or the Government there will set up an airline as they cannot be open to the perils of having one airline operation through there.

Have just read the article and it doesn't mention any routes ending, in actual fact it infers that they will continue? Maybe a W Pattern or even an aircraft based at LPL?

The market from LPL is huge so I'm sure someone else will step in as easyJets frequencey isn't enough. The point is that the isnt any 'obvious' airlines to step in.

As said, the closure of a base does not imply the closure of a route.
I am sure it puts the route at risk, from a FLYBE point of view, but that does not mean the end of it.
If I had a DC-3 and if Britain pulls out of the EU, and then out of EASA, and if I had money to throw away, I would paint the DC-3 in sort of maroon stripes and call my airline Best Ever Airlines (BEA), and we would ply back and forth across the Irish Sea.

I think logistically they would do something similar as they currently do with Paris > Cardiff > Glasgow route.
They might do LGW > LPL > IOM or Southampton > LPL > IOM, this method cuts down on bases and utilizes Aircraft more efficiently.
Another bonus to this is it opens routes to Gatwick and Southampton for LPL passengers.

Given the fact they are closing the Gatwick base and have sold their slots to Easyjet, a Gatwick route would be a huge and very unexpected surprise.

Seems to be a lot of wishful thinking, not a great deal of understanding as to Flybe's current routes into the Isle of Man, winter 2013/14. A flick through various web pages seems to provide the following information:
Birmingham Bristol (appears to be summer only) Jersey (via an en route stop) Liverpool London Gatwick (until March 2014) Manchester
While Citywing (formerly Manx2) with their smaller aircraft connect to:
Belfast City Blackpool Gloucester Newcastle
Which leaves EasyJet to London Gatwick and Liverpool; British Airways to London City; Aer Lingus Regional to Dublin.
After March 2014, the only Isle of Man route potentially served by two carriers would be Liverpool, with Flybe and EasyJet.
Should Flybe keep all their current destinations from IoM next summer, then any 'W' operations, or en route stoppers would have to originate from either Birmingham or Manchester - both of which appear to remain, although downsized, Flybe bases.
Purely speculation, based on little fact (like pax totals, loads, yields etc) I would think Flybe would most wish to keep Birmingham and Manchester (with their feeder and inter-line potential) - and either of these routes ceasing would have the greatest effect on IoM travellers. Flybe dropping Liverpool would have least impact on IoM travellers as it is already served by EasyJet (although frequency/choice of timings would be adversely affected). The potential for a 'W' operation to Liverpool is certainly there and plausible, although connects two points on their network, neither of which will have based staff. Somehow I doubt that either Birmingham or Manchester to IoM with an intermediate en-route stop at Liverpool would economically work. Finally, I would think Citywing could move onto the Bristol service.
If I have any of this reasoning wrong, I do hope that the Manx contributors will put me right! All this started just to show that a 'stopper' flight through Liverpool would not connect us to the likes of Gatwick or Southampton as earlier suggested on this thread - although desirable destinations.

The airline could just as easily use MAN crews with one aircraft based at LPL.

Or they could do MAN-IOM-LPL-IOM-MAN or BHX-IOM-LPL-IOM-BHX
There are quite a few possibilities on how the route will continue. They will want to stay at LPL if there is money to be made, and judging by the stats there is on the IOM route.
