I would not get too worked about the choice of airport for returning cruise passengers. Look at it another way. The cruise is from the North West of England. the return flight is to the North West of England. I cannot imagine for one moment that all the passengers are from Liverpool. They will be from all over the North and maybe even further. Manchester does not have a cruise terminal. It has to be Liverpool. Be happy about that. The North does have several airports. The operators have chosen one which suits them for reasons which are right for them and might even be best for the majority of their passengers. Sorry Ron can't agree with that, as the passengers returning to Manchester are being bussed to Liverpool, where presumaby they will have left their cars prior to taking the cruise. Too many times Manchester is being used for charters as it suits the companies when Liverpool would suit customers better, for example when Thomas Cook ran a daytrip to Prague from there for Liverpool FC fans in 2011 (see link below). The cruise terminal is good for Liverpool and Liverpool the city should be fighting to keep every last but of business generated for local companies, not sharing them out around the north west, it certainly never works the other way around. If somebody in the north of England wants a cruise that is the main consideration and unless the ship canal is widened they'll have to sail from Liverpool or Newcastle and make that choice. They certainly aren't going to decide not to bother with their cruise if they won't be flown back to Manchester. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2011/01/26/sparta-prague-v-liverpool-fc-europa-league-ticket-details-100252-28054879/

Its early days for the Liverpool Cruise terminal. Can't wait for the new one to be built. As I said in an earlier post, Liverpool Cruise terminal/Liverpool Airport should take a trip to Miami or Fort Lauderdale and see how they integrate things. In short...slick and efficient with true American customer service. (They also have many more ships too.......several big ones every day.) Of one thing you can be certain, if Liverpool Airport does not get its act together on this one, the other place up the road will do so, especially as they have many more domestic and international routes to feed in.

Given VAG already own Vancouver and Nassau airports, you would like to think they are experts in that, but as you say they need to get its act together fast as Manchester may well be one step ahead and already talking to the cruise companies.

actually VAG don't own Vancouver Airport which is one of the reasons the group changed its name to get away from that connotation

Liverpool have been talking to cruise companies, clearly shown by the fact that cruisedeals are now on the website with barbados listed as a destination from the airport.

It is being reported that Thomas Cook have signed a deal with easyJet. They intend to sell 80,000 holidays using easyJet flights. Looking at the Thomas Cook web site there are a handful of LPL departures, but I'm not sure whether these predate the latest news, or whether there is more to come.

Not being pedantic - it is a very relevant difference which is clouded by the previous name. Maverick

Thanks, just checked again and see what you mean - VAG I would hope the expertise is there anyway within the wide organisation VAG does indeed have expertise in the cruise "airport-ship-airport" transfer operation. When Vancouver was still only a call port for cruise ships, with Seattle, just across the sound, the cruise ship base, VAG, along with the Vancouver port authorities, set to work on enticing cruise companies to base ships in Vancouver and use YVR as the airport for those passengers. Their marketing worked so well that the Port of Vancouver is now one of the busiest cruise ports on the west coast of North America and cruise pax arrive at YVR from, not just Canada and the USA but Asia, Europe, South America and the South Pacific.

Liverpool seems have re-appeared in the Thomson Holidays drop down menu. No flights or holidays show up if you do a search though. I sure when I last looked Liverpool wasn't even an option.
Probably wishful thinking, I know but it would be good to break back into the IT market again!

Hopefully! Would be a real coup for the airport. It is the right time of year to see something announced from them as well. The airport did say that they were targetting african, turkish and cypriot destinations as these are currently huge gaps - ideal for Thomson!

Sorry to put a damper on things but both Thomson and Thomas Cook have been using Easyjet flights for their holiday flights, it would be nice to see both at LPL but doubt it will be soon.

Wasnt there a post on here saying although Thomson have been using EZY flights they have not been doing so exLPL?

Quite correct. EZY spoksman at the FoLA meeting stated that Thomas Cook also dont book LPL flights by EZY although EZY were willing to do so as they do at MAN.
