Not sure if land passenger transport links come under this section or not. I put this here as I thing it could come under Airport Developments.
As I mentioned in a post in 'Passenger Figures' Arriva are reducing the number of departures from the airport in early October. One of the routes affected is the 500. It is antisipated that Arriva will nolonger operate the service after 1930 hours on a commercially viable basis. Does anyone know if Merserytravel have placed this out to tender or if the evening service is being dropped completely?

Presumably with so few flights departing after 9ish the city centre-airport legs are empty to that makes it unviable as they want passengers on both legs of every round trip. This is another worrying development though, I know there's plenty of airports around the Europe where there's no dedicated bus, instead local services are sufficient, but I hate to think what impression of the city may be thrust upon some taking a regular service to/from the airport of a night.

Spot on Steh, the 500 is nice to have but not really needed due to other alternatives.
Changes to services from the 7th October are;
80A. The evening service will revert back to every 30 minutes from 20 as it is at present.
500. To relieve pressure on the 82A some early morning services heading to the airport are to stop at all stops from the city centre. Note; this is only some so, anyone using it is advised to consult the timetable first. The last departure from the airport will be 7.30pm unless another operator steps in.

So, they should call those stopping services the 82A NO the 500. The 501 stops before 2000. I think that having no express service from the airport is a joke. If its not financially viable then so be it, thats the way it goes. But if I land after 1955 then its going to be a major source of frustration and annoyance.

The 501 is a bit of a joke, if it wasn't funded by the local taxpayers it wouldn't be running at all. If it's not parked where people can see it they won't wait but board either the 80A or 86A depending on which comes first. Having said that, even when it was parked in full view of passengers at Parkway, people still used the alternatives. It runs every 15 minutes and takes 10 minutes (if your lucky). The 86A at that time of night takes 15 minutes and also runs at 15 minute frequencies. Timed at these minutes past the hour; 10, 25, 40, and 55. Hope this information relieves your major source of frustration and annoyance. However, if your in a hurry, don't get the 80A as it takes a detour through the Speke estate at night and takes considerably longer to get there. PS. Nearly forgot. The 86A timetable changes on Sunday 16.9.12 and the new Mon-Sat evening departures will be at; 02, 17, 32, and 47, past the hour. Sunday and Bankholiday timings remain at 10, 25, 40 and 55.

An article in the LDP post quotes from Head of operations that the arrivals area and departure gates are in need of refurbishment, does anyone think anything will happen soon?

Same article seemed to suggest that the airport thought the loss (hemorraghage?) of passengers was actually a good thing for it. Maybe it's the Airport Management that needs to be refurbished and not the gate lounges?

The management have been promising this for years now and still nothing is being done. I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you ezylpl - as time has shown - lip service all the way to the gate. I wouldn't rule that management statement out Maverick. The one saving grace for the charter market was Manchester's initial refusal to bow to the loco's. Now that they have, it's hitting the charter market hard over there. If LPL can get the costs down it could well see a few disgruntled operators changing their allegiance. Think we will need a longer runway and larger hangars PDQ if we are to succeed and keep them though. A link to the aforementioned article. www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/ldpbusiness/business-local/2012/09/13/liverpool-john-lennon-airport-seeks-to-broaden-its-mix-with-more-charter-flights-99623-31822729/

The article mentions, if the strangle hold of the loco's is loosened, then maybe other airlines might give us a look in. The airport wouldn't've invested 12 million without the possibility of future business. Cat III is on the horizon and maybe a deciding factor with future airlines, Thomas cook selling seats with easyjet, whilst it won't make a huge dent may be a way of Thomas cook testing the water. We don't know but there should be positives in this gloom.

You seriously trying to say that the LPL fees are more costly than those over there? Yes, the official documents of both airports will show you this. There may be discounts at each, but the baseline fees are higher at LPL.
