Though your own personal experiences, what would anyone recommend as the best one? I have heard good things about Aerodata and also Aviation Databases. Thinking of swopping over from paperbased. Whatever is the best it's going to be a big job. Thanks.

Hi Crumb
I've recently switched to ADU from just running an Excel spreadsheet.
It took a while to input everything but once you've got the hang of it, it's pretty easy
I'm very happy with the database

Hello Crumb I am relatively new to spotting and in retirement. When I started, about 2 yrs ago now, I realised that I needed a database to record a very quickly growing amount of data. I noted that several people mentioned ADU Software in their postings. I researched this and in due course I purchased a subscription. Excellent software, regularly updated, and run by people who are fellow spotters. It is easy for me to use ( it needs to be ! ). I do not think you would regret a purchase.

Hi. I used to use ADU but found it too expensive for the annual updates and it provided way more features than i needed. I also found it complicated to link my photos to my sightings. I now use Spot2Log. Its a lot cheaper than ADU and you only have to pay a one off fee. You can download it and make 20 free trial entries before you decide if you want to buy it. It is a much simpler, and basic database. It does not offer for example the comprehensive fleet lists that ADU does.
Hope this helps

Another option is planebase which is completely free. I've been using it for a couple of months now (had ADU last 8 years) and I find it at lot more user friendly than ADU. And it's free which is a bonus!

Planebase is fantastic, easy logging and lots of free updates, there improving it all the time as well, plus its free :-) and if like me you have an SBS you can link your database to it then pushing the interested button only on the SBS will only show aircraft you need on screen :-) The guys at plane base will also take you exel or similar spread sheet and manipulate it so that it runs straight into your database, so that by the push of a couple of buttons your planebase will have everything you have seen logged :-)
Did i mention it was FREE :-) lol
