Doing some work (well watching the wife do the work) in the garden today at Wallasey Tuesday 1st July between 15.30- 16.30 I heard a strange humming sound, much like a distant helicopter, I searched and searched the surrounding sky and could see nothing although the sound was now quite a lot louder, but not intrusive, when all of a sudden the sun glinted on an object high up not far off low level cloud base. Grabbing my camera this is a couple of the shots captured. Looks expensive and very professional. Any ideas. 2.

Would love to discover WHO was using it today and why, that web link refers to an Asian company but is obviously the same or very similar piece of kit. Thanks.

Thanks for the link above, very interesting and surprised at relative low cost of such an item. I understand from a current pilot friend that there are massive safety concerns with these one example is that Network Rail are going to be reducing the current helicopter use and will use these on cost grounds following rail lines. Also mapping ones use and fly via GPS co-ordinates and when flying between points will cross airfield approach paths especially some small private sites an less important fields. The mind boggles at them flying within Manchester or Birmingham or Heathrow areas.

Question-if you have to have a licence ( category dependent on skill level), as I understand it, to fly a powered model a/c do you have to be licence to fly/control one of these things?

I spoke to someone who sells these online. He thought you only needed a licence if you use them for commercial purposes.
In theory you can link one to your iPad and fly one from home, imagine sitting at home using your iPad as a controller and a camera on the helicopter linked to some Google glasses so you see the view as though you are flying it !!
You could also programme one to follow your iPhone at a certain height, therefore allowing it to film you as you run or cycle.
A company in Russia has already used one to deliver a pizza and I think the German Railways were using them to patrol the railway looking for trespassers
Don't think it will be too long before more licensing comes into force. Can you imagine if loads of people start flying them

This one was flying out of Perch Rock in New Brighton yesterday, an innocuous mission filming a promo video for a rock band! I'll park my Orwellian theory for now.......

Thanks for the shot at New Brighton. I believe the goggles are superb for flying these with, put a whole new slant on a flight Sim.
