On the surface sounds good news. However it may be the pessimist in me but the timing and days of operation are hardly much use for leisure weekends or such like. Or could it be that the pilots are in fact "creatures of the night" and cannot fly in daylight hours. Just make sure you pack a stake if you book on this one I don't share such pessismism, Bacau is an airport that has expansion plans (currently only c370,000 pax per year) and Liverpool is the only destination from there outside London (where only Luton is served). This route I think will be a big winner for the migrant community, unless UKIP win the election.

Nearly all of the Luton and Dublins, as well as the LPL, to Bacau flights are what can be described as overnight flights.

The timings are far from ideal, but I prefer them to the early rising required for all those so called "first wave" departures.

Official press release from the airport's website: Blue Air to add second Romanian destination direct from LJLA Romanian airline Blue Air has announced a further new route to operate from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), with flights to the city of Bacau in North East Romania to commence in March 2015. This latest news comes just three months after Blue Air announced their inaugural three times weekly service to the Romanian capital Bucharest, which starts in December 2014. Situated in the historical region of Moldavia, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, Bacau is one of Romania’s cultural centres with a state theatre, museums and a symphony orchestra. Attractions include the famous churches of northern Moldavia with their colorful paintings, which have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Seen as one of the most beautiful regions in Romania, where visitors can enjoy hills, meadows and forests, Blue Air now give travelers the opportunity to discover the unique regional history, traditions and spirit of Romania by visiting Bucharest or Bacau. Flights to Bacau will commence at the start of Blue Air’s summer schedule on 31st March 2015, operating twice weekly with departures at 00:40 on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. Fares will start from just 42.90 Euros (approx £34.25), one way (including taxes and charges) with the airline operating a 162 seat Boeing 737-400 on this route also. Today’s announcement follows September’s visit to Liverpool by senior airline representatives who attended a reception in the City, meeting with various businesses and stakeholders from across the City Region. Mark Povall, Director of Air service Development for Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “The response to the launch of Blue Air’s flights to Bucharest has been very encouraging and the support shown by the region’s business community has undoubtedly contributed to the airline’s latest decision to already add further flights, before even starting their operations from here. “This is an exciting time for the airline and we will continue to work closely to explore other opportunities to serve Liverpool from elsewhere across their network.”Gheorghe Racaru, Blue Air General Manager added, “Blue Air has been permanently developing by opening new routes, increasing the fleet or adding new services. After the launch of the direct flights from Liverpool to Bucharest, the positive response was overwhelming and since then, the requests for flights to Bacau have increased. After careful analysis of the market, we are pleased to announce Blue Air’s second route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. “As all Blue Air clients know, the Smart Flying concept means full transparency over the cost of a trip. Passengers decide the configuration of their flight ticket. They can choose from three categories of basic and optional Blue Air services: BASIC, STANDARD and PREMIUM. Therefore, businessmen, tourists, or those who are visiting friends or relatives (VFR) will always benefit from personalised service, at the best prices”. Blue Air have been operating for 10 years with a network of services from Romania to destinations across Europe, offering high levels of comfort and customer service with great value for money air fares. Flights can be booked on www.blueairweb.comAn interesting quote there from Mark Povall, regarding future expansion. The airport's team seem to have struck up a close relationship with the airline. With rumours of a Turin base, maybe given time that could be their third destination from here!

Not sure Turin would work. Would Brits be willing to use a Romanian airline to get there? I'm not sure. It would need to be marketed very well.

I must say, when looking at the Blue Air network I can think of better places to go than Turin, and I do not quite understand the fascination or assumption that LPL might be a link to/from there, but on the other hand, if a base (Hub) is to be established at Turin , I do not see why it should not be as equally popular as all those places, with unpronounceable names, that we would never imagined being connected to Liverpool, and other places, just a few years ago.

Turin might work well as a winter destination for access to the Italian Alps. Besides, who thought cities like Bratislava would work from Liverpool? Be positive!

Interesting that the meeting was with "stakeholders" we will see when route starts if pilots have capes and large pointy front teeth!
I have read the news where does the suggestion relating to Turin come from? I have read and cannot see this mentioned, or have I just totally missed it.

Airlines do not tend to connect two places that are not a base.
So given that Turin is to be a base, with the possibilty of a route, then thats good as far as I am concerned

Would Brits be willing to use a Romanian airline to get there? I'm not sure. It would need to be marketed very well. Well they do with an Irish airline and a multi national east European airline.
