Hi Folks, During clearing out due to renovation work being carried out on our house, we have come across a number of photographs taken by my wife's late father, who was a keen amateur photographer all his life. In amogst the ones recently found were the following trio - all of which were marked in pencil on the back "Aeroplanes at Walton Hall Estate". Unfortunately, that is the only info given, no date etc., but they may be of interest to some board members. Cheers, Dave

They are Hawker Horsleys. A 2 seat light bomber in service with the RAF between 1927 and 1935. More info can be found here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_HorsleyAndy ( with too much time on his hands today)

The photo on Wiki could even be the same aircraft as it has "00" in the middle of the serial too. Cheers, Dave

Dave, I think the event in Walton Hall Park was in late 1926. I don't know the reason for the visit, but a couple of years later the site was one of those being considered for the municipal airport. It was probably nothing to do with it being a possible airport site, but just that the airfield at Aintree had been closed and was no longer available. Can any serial numbers be read from the images?

Hi Phil, Many thanks for that. As for serials, I have "gama corrected" the first shot and it clearly shows J8009 under the wing. It is also apparent on the fuselage (see photo below). Another photo shows one serial ending 002, so I assume this will be J8002 as Dave C suggests. It would also appear that there were at least three aircraft at this event. If you look at the position of the two dark circles within the wheel hub on picture 1, they do not correspond with the positions of them on the two aircraft visible in the second and third pictures ... uless one of them had been moved, which seems unlikely as they are well chocked. Cheers, Dave
