KENYON HALL FARM, MONDAY 4th MAY 2015
With decent weather on a Bank Holiday Monday, having left it too late to make the trip across to Breighton's Auster themed fly-in worthwhile, an afternoon out at informal and welcoming low-key flying day locally. The grass strip is in a field set back off the A579 road, not far north-east of M6 J22 (A49) roundabout. Previously I have parked in Kenyon Hall Garden Centre, crossed the main road and headed up a track between fields for 8-10 minutes to reach the LAC 'clubhouse'. There is now a new field-track in far better condition, but to the 'wrong' end of the runway (well, will become the 'right' end once the clubhouse cabin is moved shortly!).
No aircraft are kept at Kenyon Hall Farm, the grass airfield being currently open only on a limited number of days during the year as advised on the LAC website. I've made a couple of trips over the years and always been welcomed and have enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine waiting for something to appear on the dead-side to land, or fly over down the low level corridor.
I had hoped that the fair weather would bring out a few more aviators, but was pleased to see the six aircraft visiting this afternoon. Photography is easy, and just at the moment, with the oil-seed rape in flower, somewhat colourful. Nice not to have any airport 'furniture' cluttering up the back-ground to shots. I arrived 1335 and left at 1525, only to rush back briefly at 1540 as the Eurostar parked-up!
G-MHGS Stoddard-Hamilton Glastar already in, departed 1350, returned 1435 then departed 1525 home to Barton
G-KEAY AutoGyro MTO Sport already in, departed 1510
G-CCMS Mainair Pegasus Quik arrived 1325, dep 1410, both routed Barton-Sleap-KHF-Barton
G-OFDT Mainair Pegasus Quik arrived 1325, dep 1410
G-PLAN Cessna F.150L arrived 1405, dep 1530ish
G-JLAT Aerotechnik EV-97 Eurostar arrived 1540
There is a fly-in event (as distinct from an LAC active day) being advertised for Sunday May 31st, with a families event co-incidentally being held at the Garden Centre. Any /active day/event at LAC's Kenyon strip is extremely weather dependent though. www.lancsaeroclub.co.uk for information
