Belarus was one of the few countries I didn't get to visit when I was working in that part of the world. It's nice to know that for the moment at least, the aircraft are well-kept and it looks as though they are serious about keeping examples of their old aircraft. Many of the aircraft which were preserved around Moscow have been moved (or scrapped), apart from thos at Monino, largely because the ground they were occupying has been sold off for development.
An interesting trip, with an interesting report and photos. Thanks calflier.

Good point,Garstonboy, they do seem to be happy to keep the memories alive,I can imagine Minsk school parties visiting the aircraft park at Minsk National airport for years to come and learning about the generation of airliners that will soon be all gone,Minsk was really an eye opener, but in a nice way, beautiful and clean,I would like to go back sometime, thanks.

Thanks for a great report with lots of interesting non aviation stuff too. Far from being a rule breaker, I thank you for the advance warning of the next trip. The chances of me being able to take up that trip are miniscule, but I am glad I have the knowledge before, and not after.

I had to come back to read these reports again. They took me back to my regular trips from Heathrow to Prague. Mostly 134s but from time to time a Tu154. Several times I was up front and I even got to sit in the RH seat and did a bit of handling on descent to Prague. The CAA/EASA would have a fit these days. The aspect which stays in my mind is the arrangement of the flight engineer's position. (You can see a part of this in one of your photos) All the control knobs and switches were huge "Bakerlite" things, like they were built for the Quatermass series, and the warning claxon for various events was the same sound as a teacher ringing a heavy playground bell. Whether or not these aircraft were designed to fly really well, or perhaps the crews were so very well trained, but I never experienced anything other than a greaser on landing, on any of these machines. On my first trip with CSA a beer could be purchased for about 10p

Probably a bit more modernised on the 154M,but still nice to see the F/E panel still in use today on a Belavia 154m EW-865748,at Minsk National.
