Russia,s biggest private airline, has declared banruptcy today and stranded passengers all over the world,it could not refuel its aircraft due to credit withdrawals,a takeover by Aeroflot,is highly unlikely, economic conditions in Russia are difficult at this time due to sanctions by the west. Now seems some Transaero flights are operating, rescue by Russian Govt? www.rt.com/business/317219-transaero-files-for-bankruptcy/

Much of Transaero's revenue comes from holiday traffic. In the light of the economic sanctions, (the rouble has dropped 25% against major currencies in the past six months and inflation at about 15%), far fewer Russians have been travelling abroad and their flights have been well below capacity. It's a sad end for what was a well-run professional airline. I had some dealings with them in their early days and I was very impressed with the people I worked with. I suspect Aeroflot will cherry-pick the routes they want and the rest will just disappear. Looks like Shannon airport will be busy during the next week or so!

Yep think you are correct,as Aeroflot,s revenues will have dropped too,so they will cherry pick,I suppose the 747-400 painted up with the tiger,s face over the nose will be no more pity!it was superb.

I saw one of their 763's going over the top to Shannon approx two weeks ago, I presumed it was a routine flight, it must have been for storage?

One of their 747s was in Rhodes on the 16th of September (I'm glad to say it landed after us mayhem if the other way round) so there are still a lot of Russians who have money to spend just of thread there was also another Russian charter airline on the ramp this being Royal Flight

Seems the Russian Govt, will allow credit for Transaero to continue flying until DEC15th 2015,when other arrangements will be in place for passengers booked after that date, sad end!
