Re "somewhere in Wiltshire", I have seen a C-130 at Deptford Down, a small grass field on top of a small Hill, just inside Danger area D123, although I must admit, those photos do not look like the same place. Seems altogether bigger and more open. If not Deptford it will be somewhere else within the hinterland of Salisbury plain. Whilst flying in Wiltshire I have been passed by C-130s flying beneath me, overtaking from behind, thankfully with prior warnng from Lyneham ATC. This is a great thread and shows the versatility and success of this wonderful aircraft. RT Ron That's definitely Deptford Down. I was there about a year ago but only caught a Squirrel and a Lynx ;D

I often wonder though, what the pilots thought of a single bright infra-red figure pointing a monocular at them in the dead of a dark night in the middle of nowhere. These days they would have opened fire at you. Nice memory.

I have just read of the experience 'Viscount' had at Caernarfon. It reminded me very much of a similar exercise held at Walney in November 2006. The photos are of very poor quality, the first being shot through NVG's and the other was a lengthy time exposure with almost no available light. The Herc was XV217 and the two Chinook (one either side of the Herc) remained a mystery. Cheers Shaun

A couple from Dubai 2007 to add to this fascinating mix... Can't seem to get these up to full size for some reason - if anyone else can, feel free to do so!

Thanks ste. I've now reset the photobucket download. I thought it was set on 17, but it's obviously tripped at some point
