Following on from last nights One Eleven shot, Dan Air had a big presence in Liverpool many years ago as can be seen from this image of the Dove and a DC 3 in the background, what a shame it all ended up at the opposite end of the M56. What a great little airport we had. Please feel free to post any old images you have, there must be thousands out there. Bob. !cid_E779CA06-E0A8-4A4F-9455-6A682D9E41BA _filtered by Bob O, on Flickr

Wonderful, and yes we did have a great airport. At the risk of repetition, how lucky we were compared with young spotters today. I do not remember ever seeing a Dan-Air Heron. I did once flew from Gatwick to Berne in a Dab-Air 748 which was in CAA colours. It was back in the days when they operated the daily flight there. This was another fine tiny airport. On arrival, se sat, "al fresco" at a restaurant to have lunch, (rosti); the restaurant literally opening out onto the small apron.

The date of the Avro 748 visit, which incidentally was the first visit by type to Liverpool, was Saturday, 21st March 1964 - Grand National Day. My recall is that it was a cold, dreary day, damp with low cloud. The 1964 complete visiting aircraft log on: derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/20533/complete-visiting-aircraft-logs-review reveals that there were few visitors for the 1964 Aintree races, just a couple of Doves, Twin Comanche, Aztec and a innovation at the time a Brantly helicopter, with the Avro 748 being the 'star' arrival of the day. The Dan Air Heron was on a scheduled service, so does not appear in the visitors log. The reason why the weather that day sticks in my mind, was as one of those gathered on the balcony, we spied glimpses of an Apache G-ASHC through the overcast as it used Speke as a positional fix en route to overfly Aintree - shortly after it fatally crashed in the Bootle area. One of those at the controls was a well known Journalist and broadcaster Nancy Spain, so there was considerable shock at the death of those onboard. As a young teenager at the time, the day has lodged in my mind - almost certainly as it was the first time that I had seen an aircraft full of living people that within minutes after, all died in that aircraft.

here are a few from 1969 laker 1-11 as scanned same with some improvement Aer Lingus 720 with no improvement. Thanks to Mike (radiostationx) he got my old Cannon Scanner to work with Windows 10. He did this be remote from Livertpool with me in France. Brilliant We spent days doing it. Now he is taking me through the process of editing and enhancement. I thought to share the first. I realise, now, that my photos are never going to be in the same league as most others, but I hope the content is going to be interesting to some. I was there that day. I remember it so well, but I always thought the aircraft crashed at Aintree, so I learn something every day by logging onto here. Furthermore I must have really seen that Heron.
