There are going to be changes made in applying for membership of the NWAN. In the last month or so 16 persons have applied to be members. Of those 16 two were turned down, one of dubious nature and the other had an untraceable e-mail address. 1 other is a regular who has posted to the Forum, 5 who have been on line once but no posts and 8 who have not visited the site since the day they applied. Why bother joining when you can just read as a guest. When I joined I was asked to give a reason for joining the forum and I think we should bring that back stating their interest in aviation and in particular their affinity towards LJLA . We don’t want people to join and just use the forum as a platform for all their photos from across the country, the same photos you can see over and over again on other web sites. The photos are welcome when they have become a regular member but not when they are a newbie. Difficulty is that you need to be a member to post a submission so new members will have a week to to do so or be deleted from the NWAN. Regards Beemer (Administrator)

Makes sense Beemer - I was amazed at how many "members" we have that join and never come back and/or never post even an introduction (perhaps an intro thread as used on many other forums might help ease newbies into the fold?)

I have recently joined and I am enjoying the information, photographs and the excellent assistance from people on this site. I have to be honest, the last time I was in Speke was Aug 1979 to catch the Air France Concorde, however in my defence I have now booked a few days in Warsaw Chopin(WAW) out of LJLA in April 2018.
I am primarily Manchester based, but believe the NWAN gives the best coverage for all the North west and I value being a new member.

Hi AM, Some nice contributions from you so far, it is North West Air News , the last time I went to LPL I travelled with futura and the time before that was with Ryanair on a 1-11 so I couldn't say I frequent LPL frequently. Mike.

Person applying for membership will receive this message.
Membership application
Please in a few words write something about yourself and why you wish to join the NWAN Forum and become a participating member. If I don't receive it within 48hrs, I will send you a reminder saying that I assume you no longer wish to be a member and your application will expire. This will not affect your freedom to view all posts on NWAN forum. Beemer (Administrator)

MEMBERSHIP AND ABILITY TO POST ON NWAN FORUM
Some 8 months ago we closed nwan forum to new members due to a great increase in 'random' members with somewhat odd user-names from very suspicious countries (Nigeria, China etc) and when their IP Address was researched it comes back with dire warnings of a security threat to our computers.
We closed membership for a period, then admittedly rather overlooked that, as with no one seeking membership workload was wonderfully light! However, the two Brians, as site Administrators have now revisited and reviewed the situation and have re-opened membership of NWAN, as there is a certain continual roll-over of old members fading out and new members wishing to take part. After all it is 'posting' members that are the life-blood of an active forum such as ours.
There are still trawlers, hackers and trolls etc out there. On application, we are now asking new members why they wish to join by stating what they are wishing to contribute in terms of an initial information/question/news/image/PM post and the Section of the forum it would be placed on. I am sure those interested in joining to responsibly post will not mind responding to that question and odd replies should alert us to those with less than innocent motives.
So to 'guests' who have thought about contributing over the past months, but been thwarted by the closed membership and no way of telling us of their desire to join, we are now open again. However there is absolutely no point in becoming a member unless you wish to actively participate on the forum. 'Guests' are still encouraged to follow forum activity, it is only if they want to join-in that membership is required.
'Beemer' and 'Viscount' - Forum Administrators.

This morning I was dealing with a new application by firstly checking the e-mail address to see if it looked genuine. Then while checking the IP Address my IP checker jumped in warning of toxic e-mails, about 20 in all associated with the said IP Address. All appeared to come from abroad including Russia and the USA. The new application's e-mail looked English with a Hotmail address . I did read that your IP Address can be used fraudulently by others to gain access to your devices. Sadly I had to delete the new application, genuine or not for the Forum and my sake. Beemer.

Well done to the admin for such vigalence. There are too many people who are phishing just to obtain photos or logs to claim as their own these days or have more sinister things in mind.
