Finally after sitting in my to do model box for several years and being 90% complete I have finished my Aifix Lightning F3. I always wanted to do a polished metal version of this classic beast but could never find a suitable paint for it until I stumbled across a Humbrol video showing how to use their metal coat polished finish spray paint. However I didn't quite manage to get the same result as they did but I think I know why. Not enough primer. We live and learn. This is the final model from a 3 box set all of which will appear together at the end of this photostream. So a little about XR719. It is painted up in the scheme of 56 SQN and was based at RAF Wattisham in 1968. On the 5/6/1973 whilst serving with 226 OCU it suffered a heavy landing at RAF Coltishall and was never repaired.
I can't believe I only paid £12.00 for this set. Colin

Nice one, and the other two!
I can't quite make out the Hunter's markings, but doesn't appear to be the same as the box art. Nor the Lightning. So does the set of three come with alternative markings?

The Hunter is marked up as 229 OCU / 79 SQN. There where two set each for the lightning and hunter but only one set for the harrier. The two sets for the Lightning were 11SQN and the LFT. I used a set from ModelDecal set no 56 which also has decals for a Lynx HAS2 for HMS NECASTLE, HMS AVENGER, HMS AMAZON, HMS ARDENT and RNAS Yeovilton HQ flight. Then there is a set for a three Attacker FB2’s 718 NAS and two for 1831 NAS / RNVR, these two being dashed at RNAS Stretton and the final set are for a T-33A Amree de l’Air in four alternatives. I’m tempted by the Attacker but I have several other models to finish first or the other half won’t be happy with me.

I`m not sure about that box art for the Lightning.....did any F.3s look like that?I may be wrong but that looks like colours adopted by the F.6 after the Mk3 was retired. I think you did well to ignore it. Your checkerboard looks magnificent.
