Does this 'self-advertising' logo mean that they will be back for a longer duration? Yes I think so. Personally the new logo means two things: one, the photos are still there on forums for all to see etc and two, with a large watermark far fewer people will be inclined to copy and paste into their own 'collections' of images. If you right click on the image and save it, it saves without the watermark so someone could store it or "pirate" it elsewhere.

Flickr to charge an annual subscription, you have till 30 Nov 2018 to download your images or pay, free imaging will be allowed up to 1000 pictures, 30% discount is available for the first year if you subscribe (Flickr Pro+, roughly $50pa before discount) before the 30th. Subscription will give you add free and unlimited storage (in theory).

Subscription will give you add free and unlimited storage (in theory). I decided to email them, which I have done, asking them to consider a one-off payment (in addition to the annual fee) to ensure that a greater number of images are given 'legacy protection'. I suggested 5,000 low resolution images. Otherwise their pro plan only exists as long as the annual fee is paid, and all of your earlier images would be deleted, for example when you deceased and payments stopped. We all go eventually, and if there is no legacy protection for images, then all forums would end up with increasing numbers of blanks in earlier (historic) posts. So far I've received a standard computer generated response to my email. The other effect of all this uncertainty is that I am now reluctant to post new images, as I am already 50% over the 1,000 limit, and every new image that I post will delete one of my 'historic' images.

This image is from my postimage account. It appears to be a lot more user friendly than my Flickr one. Colin

I've now received a reply to my email to flickr, asking for a 'legacy' option to be provided, to protect images from deletion in future when the account holder is no longer around to maintain annual fee payments. This is their reply; "Thank you for contacting, Flickr. There is not a, "Legacy" option currently for Flickr accounts. It is a great thought though and one that is worth mentioning in this, "wish list" in our Flickr forum, www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157666189625037/That will be more effective mentioning it there for the team to see. I have also added your request to a, "Feature Request" spread sheet so you are doubly covered. Let us know if we may be of further assistance." Not immediately reassuring, but presumably if enough users add it to their "wish list" (on the link above), then they might be persuaded to take action. Otherwise all forums will gradually degrade as users cease to maintain annual payments for whatever reason, and older (historic) photos are automatically removed.

You will all have heard of article 50, now we have article 13 as well. Reading between the lines, If you have a protected copyright account and content (default settings in flickr), Proboards may not be able to show the photos you post, In theory anyway. This is because the Intellectual property is transferred from you to flickr when you use their service. If you think article 50 is bad, article 13 could cause mayhem on all internet forums. edition.cnn.com/2019/03/26/tech/eu-copyright-article-13/index.htmlYou wouldnt know if the motivation behind all this is to sell more cloud/private hosting space and copyright protecting services which can cost quite a bit as we have seen with "flickr pro".

Flickr has been down for nearly 24 hrs now. It was planned in advance as "a few hours downtime" while migrating from Yahoo servers to Amazon.
Hoping its back up soon!

I've just wasted three hours trying to upload pictures from today and it just keeps hanging up at the final stage....time to give up I think! This may have been annoying when it was free, but is not really good enough when paying so much.I hope it is fixed by tomorrow. Phil

Does look like a lot of folks are still having issues though, based on the postings on some of the photography forums... GC
