This was the last thing I expected to see when we docked at Aqaba on our Middle East cruise. CS-TMP Luzair Lockheed L-1011-385-3 TriStar 500 IMG_8263 (2) by john jones, IMG_8268 (2) by john jones, Apparently it is to be sunk at a Red sea diving resort.

This LuzAir L.1011 Tristar 500, CS-TMP was the 4th from last Tristar to visit LJLA (the final Tristar in LJLA was in 2010). It arrived, somewhat unexpectedly as the last of the Jumbos returned with LFC supporters from the European Cup Final in Athens. It landed 27 on 24th May 2007 at 19:12 from Lisbon empty as Futura FUA 721P, to depart with passengers to Lanzarote at 21:11 as FUA1722 - a little later than anticipated as it seems that the handling agents had not been told to expect a wide-body on the flight (at a time when they had their equipment in use turning around Boeing 747-400s on the apron). It was the first departure of the season of Futura I/T flights to Lanzarote and was a substitute aircraft for the anticipated Boeing 737-800. Being well into the evening my sole photo is far from brilliant. I seem to recall that the cry went up on the old mound car park rather late, "that's not a 737 it's a Tristar!" as it appeared through the trees, followed by a mad scramble to collect cameras and rush up the mound slope. Anyone got a better one to post?

Thanks. I hoped someone would be along with a better shot - much easier to locate in the files once a date is known. Interesting fate for this aircraft and a "what the (deleted) is that doing here?" moment for John - good 'spot' by the way!
