Not sure what has occurred with this evening’s U2610 from Belfast. It did a go around on initial approach and then diverted to Manchester. The aircraft, G-EZGC has just positioned across from MAN (21:00).

The aircraft, G-EZGC has just positioned across from MAN (21:00). A Wizzair advised the ATC tower that people could be seen climbing over the fence from the lane on short finals runway 27. So the airport shut down for over 20mins as the airfield was secured.

I was on the delayed EZY 7024 from Jersey when the captain came over the pa system and said that people had got onto the airfield and we would have to go into the hold ,and if it was shut down for too long we would have to divert to Ringway not what you want after a 3 & half hour delay .

Sorry to hear that Robaero. I’m surprised it took this long for something like this to happen. It turns out smashing down an airport fence and sitting in the approach lights close to the threshold is not a great idea. Now it’s cost us a diversion.

One would have thought that the fence construction would have been phased with the road closure so that there would have only been the road section to fence off on the day of closure. I haven’t noticed any obvious work on the new fence construction since the road was closed almost a week ago. The concrete blocks placed to stop access to the road also prevent police from making regular and visible patrols along this section....coincidence !!! We also now have cars parked on the short section of road that is left up to the GA entrance. This creates danger for cars entering and leaving the GA. Are all of these issues predictable at the planning stages so that they may prevented from happening in the first place.

Phil On Friday evening after taking my photos I could not get out of the GA road because it was obstructed by parked cars. Namely a young couple in a dark blue Fiesta and a family in a grey Mercedes A class. Where are the local plod when you need them ?
