Just tracking Norwegian B787 LN-LNO over Liverpool.
The flight is from Barcelona to Los Angeles and this seems a strange route to take.
Might it be because of the limitations the FAA placed on ETOPS for some B787 aircraft operating with Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines?

Could be, because you could certainly operate 120 etops on that route, and the restriction for the Trent engines is, I believe, 140 minutes etops. This is less restrictive than 120 minutes etops which we often have to plan due to a restrictive maintenance item. It could also be most optimal routing today too due to the winds across the Atlantic. Today, going up to Iceland, flights will pick up a strong tailwind on a routing that would go over southern Greenland and Hudson Bay versus a strong headwind on the westbound NAT tracks. Just looked at a Delta flight Amsterdam-LAX, and it was a very similar routing just a bit further north of the Norwegian flight. Certainly a more normal routing out of Amsterdam versus Barcelona, but with today's winds, it could very easily be the best route, even out of Barcelona.

No, it was definitely routing north of the westbound NAT tracks. It was something like ORTAV 63n020w 64n030w 64n040w 64n050w EMBOK for the crossing. If I remember correctly, yesterday's northern most NAT Track started at BALIX and ended at URTAK, and the furthest north it reached was 60n, just clipping the southern tip of Greenland. So, the Norwegian flight routing started one degree north of BALIX and ended up maybe five degrees north of the tracks approaching Canada, approximately 300 nautical miles. (Each degree is approximately 60 nautical miles.)
The charts shown on the link are for today's NAT tracks, which would have more accurately reflected yesterday's winds. That is a really good website - I can use it to preview what is in store for me when I go to work and am working transatlantic flights, without having to log into my work website.
