MALAGA, Monday 9th September 2019. First of two visits 0900-1230 & 1430-1530. At the inland 13 runway end. A need to visit Specsavers in Fuengirola, the 'wrong' side of the Airport from my casa, provided a double opportunity to call-in at Malaga Airport. Initial visit caught the morning light on the (mainly) departures runway 13 at the inland threshold; the afternoon visit called in at the Churriana end (31) beside the military apron, however the heat haze was strong so thwarted attempts to read off the biz-jet reggies. No Do.328 VH-PPJ today, nor BN-2 Defender OY-FHA, both seen three weeks ago. Not a bad day out. Over the past 2+ years don't think I've seen 3 wide-body visitors in a day before. No British Airways due to their pilot's strike, however Cityflyer did confusingly wave the flag. Kuwait must take the prize for the least altered colour scheme - it is remarkably similar to that on their first Boeing 707s some 50 years ago. No need for special 'retro' colours for them! No excitement watching a water-bomber helicopter in action this time, but one of the Canadair CL-415s did go off for a one hour sortie. The Icelandic Coast Guard Dash Eight left at 0915 for what must have been around a 4 hour flight watching for refugees crossing from Morocco. Normally would drop in to the museum to read off the biz-jets if I had time (which I did), but I know they are closed on Sunday and Monday. The Mexican Legacy tantalisingly shimmered in the strong heat haze.

Boeing 777-300 A7-BBH Qatar operates several day a week Only 'polar bear' seen during the day was EC-MIY ATR-72-500, with no titles there is no way of knowing that it is Air Nostrum, operating for Air Europa. Thanks 'Deteulada' for that information. Airbus A.320 of Iberia Express with arms around the fuselage and inscription "Madrid te abraza" = "Madrid hugs you" Airbus A.320 OO-TNB one of three TUI Belgium flights seen Blue Panorama Boeing 737-800 EI-GIM. As the flight did not appear on FR24 Malaga arrivals as a Blue Panorama flight don't know if it was a charter or being used as cover by another operator. Not seen Blue Panorama at Malaga before. Although on two runway operation all morning, for about 4 arrivals they switched to one runway! EI-EAV Airbus A.330-300 operating Aer Lingus's daily wide-body flight from Dublin EC-LTG Boeing 737-400 of Alba Star Boeing 737-800 F-GZHE of Transavia France Boeing 737-800 C-GOWG of Sunwings Canada (note the flag on the nose), in full Smartwings of the Czech Republic scheme. Unusual to see an airliner registration painted in red, although is not very clear on this photo. CS-DJE ATR-72 of TAP Air Portugal Express EC-LRH ATR-72 of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum on arrival on 12, so behind me as I face the 13 threshold. Airbus A.320 D-AEWP with Eurowings titles Airbus A.319 D-AGWF with Germanwings titles and additional 'Lufthansa Group' titles One I've seen before, Airbus A.320neo EC-NAJ of Vueling with children's drawings depicting destinations Appearing somewhat crudely painted and with former operator titles clearly (to the eye) painted out, N733MA Boeing 737-800 of Miami Air being used for the summer by TUI Netherlands, presumably a Boeing 737-MAX8 stand-in. A further image of Blue Panorama Boeing 737-800 EI-GIM on departure. Returning later in the afternoon, the sun being in the right position for the 13 (south east) end of the active, a call-in at the Churriana end (pronounced with a rolling double rr). Promised myself no easyJet, Vueling, Transavia or Ryanair in this photo post - well I rather liked this shot immediately after lift-off. A colour scheme I did not expect to see on the day of the British Airways pilot's strike, a British Airways schemed Cityflyer Embraer ERJ-195, G-LCAA a recent delivery. F-HTVE Boeing 737-800 Transavia France Airbus A.330-200 9K-APD of Kuwait Airways on arrival.

An aircraft noted now over a number of Malaga visits, DHC-8-Q300 TF-SIF of the Icelandic Coast Guard in use on humanitarian refugee observation flights. She departed for what have been around a 4 hour flight. A smart Moroccan registered Gulfstream 280 CN-TRS This Falcon 7X, CS-DTD departed for an around 20 minute 'local' I'm always fascinated by the boxy Canadair CL-416. Here 2069/43-33 made an unhurried departure (on a fire-fighting 'shout' they depart from a shorter taxi only part-way down the runway). The sortie lasted for around an hour. Phenom 300 D-CROG OE-GJP Cessna 525B Citation CJ3 Although 13 was the departure runway, military traffic gets priority for landing - here CL-416 2069/43-33 makes a tight hand-hand visual short-finals to land Rather smart Airbus A.319CK HB-JJJ Cessna 525 Citation CJ1 G-KION Departing OO-VMF Cessna 560 Citation XLS+ Phenom 300 CS-PHK of NetJets Europe Finally, as covered in the log, parked over on the executive apron was an interesting Embraer Legacy shimmering in the heat haze. Fairly clearly Mexican XA-**E the rest of the registration defied identification. On a Monday the Museum does not open, so eliminating the nearest viewing point. The Beechcraft 'house colours' King Air 200 is very likely G-MEDZ seen by me several times during the summer.

MALAGA AIRPORT, Thursday 26th September A long day, from around 0925 through to 1735 at various locations. An excellent long day at Malaga with forum member Neil and mate Len from Manchester. Started off on 13 (the inland end), then a brief excursion to the Museum to have a look around and read off the biz-jets, back to 13 and later around for the afternoon on the Churriana view-point beside the military apron. Fewer big biz-jets, indeed fewer biz-jet movements now high season summer has passed. Still hot and sunny though. The day started with several hours at the 13 end. The sun starts in a reasonable position, but by midday the sun is straight down the centreline. As the shadows grow on 13 departing aircraft, so it becomes worthwhile swinging the telephoto up and out for landing shots on 12 behind you. So starting with mostly 13 departures: ATR-72-600 EC-MSN in the new Air Europa scheme Airbus A.319 EC-MUY of Volotea, visually their A.319s always appear shorter than EasyJets, not sure why. Airbus A.320 EC-LEA of Iberia Express ATR-72 EC-LSQ of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum With Eurowings titles, but retaining the CSA tail scheme, Airbus A.319 OK-REQ is clearly out on summer lease. Boeing 737-800 OO-JEF of TUI Belgium, there were a number of arrivals from TUI UK as well during the day Eurowings titles and Eurowings colours on Airbus A.320 D-AEWJ A move of location around 10:30am to the Museum, so down at the climbing away end of 13 and out of sight of the landings on 12. From the Museum buildings and fence come good views of the executive apron - although nothing like as busy as it can be. M-LION Hawker 900XP on the executive ramp, photographed from inside the Aviation Museum compound LX-LAB Pilatus PC-12 D-ISLT Citation 525A CJ2 of Sylt Air. On the military ramp, the other side of the 31 threshold is the military apron, with a fire-fighting CL-415 and a white/grey CASA.212 parked all day. Departing aircraft are climbing rapidly as they pass the Museum, Airbus A.321 OH-LZT of Finnair ATR-72 CS-DJB of TAP Air Portugal Express - they have a regular late morning flight and a late night in/first wave morning departure too. Then back to 13 threshold mound, now with a mix of departure 13, and landing 12 shots as the sun position changes. OE-LOR Airbus A.320 Laudamotion The only complete "polar bear" of the day, ES-SAQ Airbus A.320 apparently operating for TUI Belgium. With noticeably larger engine nacelles, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A.321NX TC-LSA To provide contrast a Swiss International older Airbus A.321, HB-IOC Another A.321, this one G-POWN a partial "polar bear", as all white, but with red airline titles and logo HZ-ARK Gulfstream 550 getting ready to depart EC-MFV Diamond DA.42 Twin Star of One Air training school taxiing out, ATC making him go all the way to the very end of runway before turning on! Clear announcing that it is an Airbus A.320neo, the first of the type for easyJet, G-UZHA. EC-MTZ Canadair CRJ-1000 of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum.

By 1pm the sun position is causing problems, so pack up and drive to the Churriana viewpoint, opposite the Museum. With the sun behind, take-off shots get progressively better lit - and some departures rise between the photographer and the terminal buildings for background interest. G-LSAD Boeing 757 of Jet2 on departure. Boeing 757s are becoming a rare breed at Malaga. EC-MHA Boeing A.321 of Vueling Agusta AW.139 EC-MUN of Helity landing and later departing from a runway/taxiway intersection so as not to affect the flow of landing and departing aircraft. After 2:30pm the airfield goes down to one runway operation 13/31. Helity (HTY) operate a several times daily service to the Spanish enclave of Mellila on the coast of Morocco - the alternative is a ferry as there is no airfield there. HB-JLT Airbus A.320 of Swiss International, who operate several times daily into Malaga VP-BCF Boeing 737-800 of Aeroflot on their regular afternoon flight, they have another late evening flight too. EI-FVM Boeing 737-800 of Norwegian with billboard titling. I find it difficult to accept SAS aircraft flying around in Irish marks rather than LN-, OY- or SE-. One of two of their Airbus A.320neo aircraft that arrive around 30 minutes apart during the afternoon is EI-SIF. Airbus A.320 OO-SNI of Brussels Airlines EC-JJP an all yellow Beech B200 King Air that seems to live on the executive apron at Malaga Phenom CS-PHH of NetJets shimmering in the heat haze, that caused much logging confusion as CS-CHH a NetJets Challenger 350 was also visiting! Final "billboard" of the day was EI-DEO Aer Lingus Airbus A.320 that has carried rugby colours for some time now, but first time I've seen it.

Lining up as we got there, a new one to me, Getjet Airlines - LY-COB Airbus A.320. Does look rather like a quick paint job on a former "polar bear". Cessna 680 Sovereign, PH-CJM Boeing 777-200 A7-BBH of Qatar EC-LPQ Boeing 737-800 of Air Europa in full 'Skyteam' colours. Normally I crop fairly close, however thought for this shot of Iberia Express Airbus A.320 EC-LKH I'd include the whole height of the mountains behind Churriana, beside the Airport. The familiar smart corporate image of TUI, this one being Boeing 737-800 OO-JAU of TUI Belgium Less familiar is a rather weather worn with overpainted previous titles image as seen on another TUI Belgium Boeing 737-800 OO-JAX. First time I've seen this Disney "billboard". Airbus A.320 EC-MLE of Vueling. Question is, does having a winged fairy on your side, improve the aircraft's performance? Only complete "polar bear" of the day, like the one the day before is registered to Smartlynx of Estonia. No external indication if this still in use by TUI, or moved on to another operator. I would image that a number of summer leases are coming to an end as the European holiday season winds-down. OE-IVK Airbus A.320 of easyJet Europe. Included here due to the 'Nantes' advertising. I do think though that the drawing element look more like fancy ice cream cones than historic architecture. On seen the day before, but is a regular on operations from Malaga, EC-KEK/101 CN.235. Here on a tight 'late finals' already part way down 13 - at the time the departures runway. Turning around, landing on 12 (the two runways at Malaga are not parallel) TAP Express ATR-72 CS-DJG Another 12 landing, this time Airbus A.320 OE-COB of Laudamotion. Even when on two runway operation(around 9am to 2:30pm in summer), military movements and occasional biz-jets are permitted to use 13 as it cuts taxi distance down for them considerably. Jet Executive Lear Jet D-CAPO landing.

Lear Jet G-ZENJ departing Diamond DA.42 Twin Star of One Air, commercial flying school Flocks of passing South American Green Parrots provided entertainment as they flew past en-route to their roosts in coastal palm trees.
