In August I had the chance to overfly Bruntingthorpe in a friends Cessna. I took some photos of the larger aircraft on the ground there. In particular the six former Royal Air Force 216 Squadron Tristars that have been stored there since March 2014.
I searched the internet for information about the intended fate of the Tristars. The ‘information’ ranged from them going for scrap and a more optimistic future for some of them to be used by an American civilian contractor to provide air refuelling for the US Navy?. I guess the four tanker versions would be the ones involved with the others being used for spares. All six have been allocated US civil registration but only two of the six wear these.
ZD948 Tristar KC1 (C/N 1157) allocated N304CS. Former BA aircraft G-BFCA.
ZD950 Tristar KC1 (C/N 1164) wears N405CS. Former BA aircraft G-BFCC.
ZD951 Tristar K1 (C/N 1165) allocated N309CS, wears 216 Squadron 30th anniversary scheme. Former BA aircraft G-BFCD.
ZD953 Tristar KC1 (C/N 1174) wears N705CS. Former BA aircraft G-BFCF.
ZE704 Tristar C2 (C/N 1186) allocated N507CS. Former Pan Am aircraft N508PA.
ZE705 Tristar C2 (C/N 1188) allocated N703CS. Former Pan Am aircraft N509PA.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has any up to date information/comments on these Tristars fates?
