At my "local", La Rochelle, Flights to Lyon previously run by HOP, an Air France subsidiary, will be taken over by Chalair from November 3rd, and booking through the AF website is no longer allowed.
Does anybody know about the ownership of Chalair? As far as I can see they are an independent carrier but there is some kind of a link to Air France, not least the fact that AF Flying Blue airmiles can be earned.

Presumably you have looked at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalair_AviationVery basic, but as an operator has been around for a while. The Wikipedia entry may have been translated from French as there are two slightly odd statements in just a few lines. So 3 x ATR-42 and an ATR-72 according to Wikipedia, a mix of ATR and Beech 1900 according to the airline. Presumably too, you have Googled Alain Battisti, many of the links are unsurprisingly in French! Looking at Chalair's own website www.chalair.eu/index.php/en the route network is unconventional, being three different sets of routes, each not connected to the others. For registrations and age of their ATR fleet: www.planespotters.net/airline/Chalair-Aviation From the photos on Wikipedia and Planespotters there is no corporate colour scheme - well certainly not on the examples shown.

Yes Guys, I saw all this stuff, and I suppose the absence of any clear tie up with Air France indicates that Chalair is truly independent, and probably owned by Alain Battisti. (The word "dirigent" in France means more than just director; it usually means "the one who controls everything".
About two years ago Chalair ran a daily flight from la Rochelle to Paris Orly (Beech 900) and it was bookable on the AF web site as a feed in to long haul flights.. That stopped and the route was taken over by HOP who also run the twice daily to Lyon, also bookable on the AF web site, with connections with AF at Lyon to quite a few places. Now HOP are moving out and Chalair take over the Lyon route. (ATR) Not bookable via AF and no through connections. The flight to Paris is dropped but it comes back again in the spring using HOP. I am concluding that Chalair is an independent and its previous tie up on he route to Paris was more of a subcontract.
This is all small fry but quite interesting too. At least to me.
