MALAGA AIRPORT, Wednesday, 6th November 2019 With a need to visit Leroy Merlin (large DIY store) close to the Airport, an opportunity on a clear, bright, sunny day to call-in at Malaga Airport. There was a constant wind from the winter direction, north west - so the aircraft were landing over the coast, rather than from inland as is usual in the summer months. Original plan was to photograph from the museum once they opened at 10am - however in the event went direct to the Churriana viewing point. On arrival the sun was close to directly down the centre-line, with the angle improving as the sun went around further to the west. The airport remains busy - not far off the same variety of airlines as during the summer, only less frequent. No 'polar bears', one good 'billboard' and two aircraft in their previous operators schemes (both being flown by Eurowings). Had hoped the Airbus A.220 of Air Baltic would be one of three in 'Baltic flags' schemes, but was not to be! As is so often the case, the military apron held interest. The pair of fire-fighting Canadair CL-415s have now stood-down and gone home, however in their place a French Customs King Air 350 and a Portuguese Air Force CN.295MP, while 2 Granada based Eurocopter EC.120B Colibri helicopters left soon after I arrived. At 1135 a Eurofighter trainer from Moron AB performed a touch and go - first time I've seen that! Also during the quiet of the early afternoon a survey P.68A flew a grid pattern across the area to the north of airport across the usual approach. Biz-jet movements were few and mostly during the afternoon. Only wide body seen (I was too late for the morning Ethiad passenger departure) was a Boeing 777F of Ethiad Cargo. Photos to follow MALAGA AIRPORT Wednesday, 6th November. Visit from 1000-1400, viewing from the Churriana end. MALAGA AIRPORT, Wednesday 6th November One of two Eurocopter EC.120B Colibri of the Spanish Air Force helicopter training school near Granada that departed in the morning. Boeing 737-700 OO-JAD of TUI Belgium on taxi-out. SAS Airbus A.320neo EI-SIB landing Finnair Airbus A.321 OH-LZG departing Vueling Airbus A.321 EC-MUM landing Airbus A.220-300 YL-CSG in 'normal' Air Baltic scheme landing Boeing 737-800 PH-HSK of Transavia departing The military apron used to be very visible from a track along the boundary fence from the Churriana viewing place, however the Avacado Pear trees are quickly growing to block the view as can be seen in photo of F-ZBGM Beech 350 King Air of French Customs. Just for the record, although certainly not a prize-winning composition, Portuguese Air Force CASA CN.295MP 16709. Operating from the far edge of the military apron, Eurocopter EC.135P+ EC-LTT of the Policia. For an hour or so, a section of the military apron had water sprayed on it while members of the Garda Civile practised hand-brake turns on the impromptu skid-pan. At first glance, with a taped on German registration took this to be an Airbus A.321 on delivery. However it has been around a fair while with Air Berlin as D-ABCK, now flying with Eurowings as D-AEUJ and presumably heading for respray shortly. Indeed Eurowings proved to the airline of surprises, as later in the afternoon with Eurowings titles, but retaining the colours and tail logo of owners, CSA Czech Airlines, came this Airbus A.319 OK-NEN, seen on arrival and departure. Eurowings colours as they should be, D-ABFR Airbus A.320 arriving. Ethiad Cargo Boeing 777 A6-DDE on taxi to the end of 13. Eurofighter 2000T of the Spanish Air Force from Moron AB near Seville on a touch and go at Malaga. Highlight of the day for me! Aeroflot Boeing 737-800 VP-BMM landing ATR-72-500 EC-LYB on lift-off into a decent wind in the new Air Europa colours Another ATR-72-500 on the moment of rotate, this one EC-LSQ of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum Another Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum aircraft Canadair CRJ-1000 EC-MNR Only major 'bill-board' scheme seen was on OO-SNC Airbus A.320 "Brussels Airlines we fly you to the home of Magritte." A further ATR-72-600, CN-COI of Royal Air Maroc Express departing with a longer take-off roll than the Spanish ones earlier Laudamotions Airbus A.320 OE-LOU arriving Some of the parked biz-jets on the executive apron on the far side of the runway from Churriana. Features C-GMBY Challenger 604, D-BHLM Falcon 2000S and C-GSHU EMB-550 Legacy. The Convair and Dove in the Museum can be seen through the heat haze too. Citation 560XLS CS-DXW of NetJets Europe landing, with thrust reversers deployed Flying close to the airport during the quiet spell in the early afternoon, clearly on a photo-survey mission, Partnenavia P.68A EC-MPQ. Note the covered over cabin windows and the opening for the vertical camera underneath. Diamond DA.42 Twin Star EC-MFV of One Air departing early afternoon I'm not going to create a fresh thread just for these two photos. Just two images out of many taken that are clear enough to use once heavily cropped. Being not too clever at bird recognition, I'd call this a Kestral, or maybe a close Spanish relative? Not doubt someone will inform me otherwise!

Thanks for that Viscount. I was at Malaga airport yesterday returning from a few days break in Granada. We left for Liverpool at 11:45 on the Ryanair EI-EKM, so your log filled a few gaps for me particularly from the executive apron and the military machines. Unfortunately I think I was boarding our aircraft when the Eurofighter t&g. Heard it but not seen!!
Must seek out the Churriana viewing point next time in Malaga as I was only aware of the museum as a vantage point.
Thanks again for the info.
Looks like a kestrel to me too.

Glad to be of service "Seatac19", quite a coincidence.
Drop me a PM before you are next passing through Malaga for a 'chat' about how to get to Churriana and the inland end of the runways.

Will definitely send a PM next time I’m over there. Should be early in the New Year.
Can you help with IDs for the two CL-415s “water bombers”. I was over in June but had no luck.

'Seatac19' - a PM has been sent. Brian.
On visits to Malaga airport 24th May, 29th May and 3rd June there were no CL-415s seen on stand-by for fire-fighting duties. On 16th June 2069/43-33 seen performing a number of circuits as the crews familiarised themselves with the 2019 water level of Lake Vinuela On 11th July 2069/43-33 was noted on stand-by at Malaga Airport On 12th July both serial UD.14-03, unit code 43-33, c/n 2069 and UD.14-04, unit code 43-34, c/n 2090 noted active at Malaga Airport On 10th August same pair as a month earlier On 18th August 1122/43-28 landed at Malaga Airport then engine tested. A very busy period for the water bombers. On 20th August 2090/43-34 and 1125/43-30 On 5th September 2069/43-33 performed a couple of circuits of Lake Vinuela On 9th September 43-16 parked and 2069/43-33 active at Malaga Airport On 26th September just 43-16 seen on stand-by duty at Malaga On 6th November none at Malaga Airport, the 'official' fire-fighting season ending on 15th October.
Doesn't answer your question for certain, however the two seen by me in mid July and again in early August are likely the same pair as you saw in June, one certainly was. Only later in the season, after a very busy period did the aircraft get changed around.

Life is tough! Have to go back in 10 days time to collect items I've had to order too. Despite being a different day of the week, very similar range of airlines seen. The Danish Air Transport nearly qualifies for 'polar bear' scheme status, while the Transavia 'bill-board', I initially took to be a new airline called 'Sunweb'! Some changes on the main executive apron, between the two visits recently a number of Canadian biz-jets, although one had clearly not moved during the week. Last week, was surprised and delighted to see a Spanish Air Force Eurofighter - topped that this week with two, a Hornet and a Eurofighter (even if it was the same one!). Bit of a story around the Hornet's appearance. STORY TIMEI can only relate this story just as I viewed it unfolding. I'm still unsure what really was behind the events, or of the real story (if there is one). The Alba Star Boeing 737 EC-NAB appeared from the apron behind the terminal (from my view), proceeded to runway 31 and departed northwards around 11:00. As the flight was not on FR24 schedules list, I assumed it was either a one-off charter, or more likely positioning out empty. Some while later (now around 11:45), I was sat in the car watching the progress of departures and arrivals, and noted that beside the next airliner arrival still a few miles out, I could see another aircraft. This second smaller aircraft put on speed, drew ahead of the Boeing on finals and could now clearly be seen to be an accelerating Air Force Hornet (they are based at Torrrejon, near Madrid). It made a level pass along the line of the runway, performing bold wing-waggling as it flew over the airfield, with Alba Star's EC-NAB landing immediately below and behind. The Boeing was chased down the runway by two fire-engines and two yellow airfield vehicles, and made the brief taxi onto the large, empty freight apron and stopped in the middle. The vehicles stayed around the edge of the apron. The Policia helicopter started up and took off, but departed off the west and disappeared. Then absolutely nothing more happened! The doors on the aircraft remained closed (although as my view was obliquely obscured through high fencing they could have been open briefly), no airline steps came anywhere near the aircraft, nor did I see any people or vehicles moving on the apron. The 'escort' vehicles eventually moved away. The closed-up aircraft was still sat there a hour later when I left. While the first part of the story reeks of response to a hi-jack, the event just totally fizzled out. Maybe it was an aircraft in trouble interception 'response exercise', but why the runway chase once on the ground when there was queue of aircraft waiting to depart. Strange - certainly in all my (very many) years hanging around airports the first time I've witnessed a military fast-jet 'escort' an airliner down to a landing - but I've simply no idea of what was it all about! I've now seen, many thanks to 'Beemer', the FR24 'track' of the Boeing 737 flight. From Malaga the aircraft had headed SE out across the Mediterranean, before turning back. As I reflect, the more the 'wing waggle' as the Hornet made a pass along the runway was a signal of 'thanks for your help' - which would certainly indicate a pre-planned interception exercise in quiet airspace. The Boeing 737 simply parking out the way on return, rather than block up apron stand space and with only cockpit flight crew aboard they quickly shut down and vacated the aircraft without requiring passenger cabin door steps. Photos of my AGP visit will be posted sometime today (which is now nearly yesterday).

MALAGA AIRPORT (AGP), Tuesday 10.11.19 OO-SRO Boeing 737-800 of TUI Belgium departing Malaga runway 31, as seen from the Churriana viewing point. Luxair Boeing 737-700 LX-LBT looking so much shorter than the series 800 Aer Lingus Airbus A.320 EI-DEN landing. I saw a new scheme A.330 way back in May, ever since have only seen old scheme aircraft on visits to Malaga. Transavia bill-board schemed PH-HSJ Boeing 737-800 for 'Sunweb'. Not particularly clever artwork, indeed compared to the Brussels Airlines 'bill-board' seen on my previous Malaga visit (photo earlier on this thread) rather simple execution of an idea, or perhaps Sunweb are a downmarket. Transavia's normal scheme, on Boeing 737 F-HTVC of Transavia France on departure Alba Star Boeing 737-800 EC-NAB departing 31 on the flight commented on in the previous post above. Aeroflot Boeing 737-800 VQ-BWF arriving No apologies for three shots of EF-18M Hornet of the Spanish Air Force. The aircraft made a level pass only the length of the runway just ahead of the landing Air Alba Boeing 737 EC-NAB. The second and third shots shows a well executed 'wing waggle' - with more 'waggle' than many I've seen at air displays! Airbus A.321 TC-JRM of Turkish Airlines. Look closely and compare this and the next A.321 image Airbus A.321 HB-IOF of Swiss International, also landing. Spot that as a result of different engine fits, the method of retardation using jetflux is different. Climbing out of a low approach and go-around Spanish Air Force Euroflighter 2000T - the same machine as seen (and illustrated on the previous picture post) performing a touch and go the previous week. Fairly standard mix of airlines again today, but no 'parked-up' Ryanair aircraft evident on this visit. Oddly the Fleetair Saab 340A did not park on the freight apron. Just one 'bill-board', the 'Sky Team' Air Europa Boeing 737 that I've seen before. The Aer Lingus was in the old scheme, while the Air Baltic was not one of the three 'Baltic flags' derived schemes unfortunately. On refugee spotting flights the same two aircraft types/operators as were present a fortnight ago. Not too many biz-jets around, and with a number departing, even fewer when I left! A bright, sunny, warm, fairly calm day (car dash board stating 22 degrees) so my jacket was confined to the car boot (just rubbing in our shirt-sleeve conditions while you freeze). I had anticipated starting the morning with flights landing over the sea, then a change of wind direction around 11am to favour landing 13, from inland. Being winter all movements were off the same runway. I went directly to the Churianna viewing point, to find flights already landing/taking-off from the other end. So a look across at the biz-jets, a couple of which promptly departed, then around to sit on the top of the earth bank at the 13 end. With daylight now effectively being an hour earlier in the day, even by the time I got there the sun was straight down the runway, the side towards me getting more and more in shadow as the day progressed.

MALAGA for 3 hours, Saturday 30th NovemberAIRLINERSTUI Belgium Boeing 737-800 OO-TUK on initial climb out from runway 13, viewed from the coastal, Churriana end Not so many Ryanairs around today as earlier in the month, or maybe the programme of flights is different on a Saturday, here EI-EKW on initial climb-out. The larger engines give this away as an A.320neo, G-UZHH of EasyJet. A good line-up of the varied airlines to be seen, Finnair, Scandinavian and Transavia parked at the terminal. Laudamotion Airbus A.320 OE-LOR on departure. I've moved viewing point to the 13, inland end of the active runway. An EasySwiss Airbus A.320, HB-JXR. Today I saw none of the Austrian registered EasyJet Europe aircraft, although some were due after I had left. A welcome change to the stream of Boeings and Airbuses, EC-LSQ an ATR-72 of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum EC-MEC an ATR-72 in the new blue Air Europa scheme Seen on landing, one I've not seen at Malaga before (although currently frequent at Liverpool) a Saab 340A of Fleetair.eu. Oddly this freight carrier did not park on the large dedicated freight apron. About to line-up for departure, Norwegian Boeing 737-800 SE-RRH, making a change from the usual Irish and Norwegian registered aircraft. Doesn't quite seem right to see Irish registrations on S.A.S. aircraft, here EI-SID an Airbus A.320neo gets ready for take-off Right on the moment of touch-down, Aer Lingus A.320 EI-EDS in the old scheme. I've not seen a new colours aircraft since May! Gleaming in the sunlight, Airbus A.220-300 YL-CSE of Air Baltic. Since seeing one around 5 visits ago, have not seen another of the 3 'Baltic Flags' inspired special schemed aircraft. While the greater majority of Boeing 737s seen were series 800 aircraft, this single series 300 operated by Jet 2, G-GDFT and a single series 900 of Turkish Airlines (photo mucked up!) were also seen. I'm always disappointed by Vueling's scheme - it always seems unnecessarily muted, the grey and pale yellow fades compared to the bright red or blues of other airlines. EC-LOB Airbus A.320. A case in point, the bright, attractive scheme of Brussels Airlines on OO-SNJ Airbus A.320. Waited for the 1pm arrival of Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum's Canadair CRJ-1000 before departing, good to see a different shape of airliner. EXECUTIVE AND OTHER TYPESDeparting Hawker 800XP LY-HCW seen at the Churriana view point VistaJet Challenger 350 9H-VJB quickly gaining height Falcon 2000 LN-RTO also gaining height from a 13 departure, photographed toward the 31 end. I can recall seeing LN-RTO as a Dakota at Speke in the early 60s. At the smaller end of size scale of aircraft seen at Malaga, Oneair's Diamond DA.42 EC-MFV looked down from the raised bank beside the taxiway to 13. The other aircraft currently at Malaga on refugee spotting duty is this Douane Francaise Beech 350 Super King Air, F-ZBGO. Just looked back at my previous Malaga visit photo thread and find this is a change of aircraft - two weeks ago it was a very similar looking F-ZBGM! A rather new looking, OY-OLD - a Falcon 8X that came out of the hangar onto the freight apron to be readied for departure. The final shot is that of the Portuguese CN.295MPA 16709 that has been active at Malaga for a number of weeks now on migrant spotting patrols over the Western Mediterranean. I've only just noticed that on all the photos I've taken of this aircraft during November, while it has been operating from Malaga, the national insignia on the fuselage has been overpainted with a white cross - presumably as it is on humanitarian rather than Air Force duty.

Decided that the Monday before Christmas would likely be a very busy day - and was proved completely wrong! A fair few smaller/mid-size biz-jets, but very little activity. Can't win them all. A very pleasant afternoon weatherwise, near cloudless, light breeze and the dash-board thermometer was showing 24 degrees, I was very comfortable in just shirt-sleeves. For the third time in four visits, entertained by a go-around by an Air Force Eurofighter - a different one this time too. No great surprises amongst the airliners, a fairly standard Malaga mix. At last caught up with Aer Lingus retro scheme, only taken many years! Last time I was at Malaga, nearly all the Norwegians seen had white tails, some having 'lost' their portrait. This time all seen had portrait tails. Although parked on the distant cargo apron, the Antonov An-12 was a Ruby Star example.

MALAGA AIRPORT, Monday 22nd December 2019 Finnair Airbus A.321 OH-LZP on taxi out to 31 threshold. Aer Lingus Airbus A.320 EI-DVM landing in a retro-scheme which it has worn now for a couple of years - but this is the first time I've caught up with it. Although 'retro' it is the third scheme I can recall seeing Aer Lingus wearing - the white top scheme I think ran from the late 60s through much of the 70s on BAC.111s, Boeing 720/707 and Boeing 737s at least - oh and Carvairs and the last of the Viscounts too. With most airliners conforming to the same basic shape, a change is always welcome, today provided by EC-LJT, one of two Canadair CRJ1000s spotted. A colour scheme becoming a regular at John Lennon, if only they would arrive in daylight hours! Laudamotion Airbus A.320 OE-LOX. There was a time when the arrival of an Aeroflot flight would signal an exotic Ilyushin or Tupolev, now it is the same shape as the flight before and flight after, VP-BKE Boeing 737-800. Right you were expecting something with more windows as this TUI schemed aircraft is OO-JVA an Embraer ERJ-190. Right this IS what your eyes were expecting to see, a TUI Belgium Boeing 737-800, OO-JAU. No apologies for the duplication, but I have been looking to get a snap (or two) of this one for quite a while! EI-DVM on take-off roll, with a very different configuration to the flaps and spoilers than the earlier shot on landing. Airbus A.321 TC-JTD of Turkish Airlines Still never looks right recording an Irish registration for a Scandinavian aircraft, EI-SIH Airbus A.320neo of S.A.S. CS-DJC ATR-72 of TAP Express Airbus A.319 EC-MTN of Volotea on touch-down 31. In a similar pose, a Jet2 Boeing 737-800 G-JZBG, one of 4 seen, and a further 3 due in the half hour after I left. Norwegian Boeing 737-800 EI-FVJ showing that not all the portrait tails feature obscure Scandinavian philosophers or poets. Just the one non-Irish Ryanair showed up while I was there, 9H-QCL of Malta Air, but like the rest of the fleet still in full Ryanair corporate colours. Eurocopter EC.135T of the Gardia Civil in military sequence markings as serial HU.26-17, code 09-311 glouiously catching the sun departing west from the military apron. Making a fairly early 'go-around' call, Eurofighter EF.2000T serial CE.16-06, unit code 11-06, was a different one than that seen on earlier visits this autumn to Malaga Airport. Despite being so close to Christmas, biz-jet activity was slow - indeed just the one biz-jet moved, although Phenom 300 D-CROG both arrived and departed. Only larger biz-jet seen was this Global 5000 D-AVBA, usually there are several to be seen, along with Gulfstreams and Falcon 7X/8Xs. Despite temperatures over 20 degrees C, heat haze was rather flat, so all aircraft on the executive pan could be identified from across the runway. Here are Beechcraft 400s SP-TAT and OK-JFA (part hidden), Challenger 300 OE-HPG, Malibu N676MA before it departed, Phenom 300 D-CROG, NetJets Falcon 2000 CS-DFK and yellow King Air 200 EC-JJP. The Museum's Dove can also be spied beyond the executive apron area. Piper Malibu Meridian N676MA making a sprightly take-off into the breeze. I'm not starting a new post for just one image, so here is a Wagtail in a period between aircraft movements.
