Today we had planned the whole day at Narita, until Paul headed off back to the US, but overnight we got some more local intel that the 301sqdn special would be flying today, taking part in a flypast at a military college. It was a no brainer really!!! We set off straight after breakfast as usual, on the motorway it was like a scene from "Sons of Anarchy", at least 100 Harley Davidson's of the Japanese hells angels!!! We duly arrived at the "Shrine" and it was rammed, even though it was a Sunday morning there were only very few parking places left!!! A fair few Phantoms were pulled out of the hangers, I'm sure the techies were a bit miffed about doing this on their Sunday morning!!! 57-8356 by John Spencer, on Flickr 57-8356-3 by John Spencer, on Flickr 57-8356-5 by John Spencer, on Flickr 77-8395-3 by John Spencer, on Flickr 77-8395-10 by John Spencer, on Flickr 97-8426 by John Spencer, on Flickr Then they pulled out the special...............................then pushed her into another hanger :-( She didnt fly but we did at least get some shots of her. 37-8315 by John Spencer, on Flickr 37-8315-3 by John Spencer, on Flickr JA73NK by John Spencer, on Flickr JA73NN by John Spencer, on Flickr Then it was round to the end of the runway to wait for the Phantoms to recover. The light moves round here all day, so you do end up using at least four locations around the perimiter. While we were waiting a youngish guy came over for a chat, he spoke very good English as he had lived in the US, he also introduced us to his brother who is in the air force and owns the best jacket!!!
