Volcano eruption in Iceland

There has been some new volcanic activity in Iceland.

It looks like it might affect the UK in the next few days and possibly Europe later in the week, depending on the weather.

Did anyone see the interview with MOL on BBc news 24 around 11.30am? Made me chuckle with the words he was using regarding the closed airspace. He said Ryanair flew a surveillance flight from Prestwick all around Scotland up to FL410 and had no problems at all. I wish I could find the interview and post it.

Apart from the head of Ryanair giving a press report on his thoughts on safe flying through volcanic ash. I am also confused when looking at FlightRadar24 which was showing several Icelandair flights heading towards Keflavik, I observed three aircraft at one point, even though news stated that the area was closed ?

Hi Mike thanks for finding that. That wasnt the one though. The one I saw he was quite heated saying he went looking for a "mythicall" cloud and the CAA are a bunch of incompitent beurocrats (spelling). Made me giggle.

The volcano has stopped throwing out ash and rocks. All that's coming out now is steam.

Willy Walsh, with a little more credibility than MOL, after he actually sent a BA aircraft through the so called ash cloud, without an problems, has also questioned the alarm and the credibility of the closures due to computer models of ash drift.

The other piece of incompetence at the CAA/FAAM, was to have the the Bae146 survey aircraft, G-LUXE, not available for ash cloud check flights. They also seemed in no hurry to get it back operating these checks, despite the urgent need.

what is worse the CAA being possible over-cautious, or airline bosses being more concerned with profit than safety. I haven't seen many sensible passengers being overly concerned. MOL needs no excuse to mouth in overdrive when money is an issue.

MOL sent a plane up and returned fine without any damage so i think its being too over cautious now
