What an amazing resource/reference document.
Anyone fancy doing similar for Liverpool?

I agree with Maverick, a superb historical resource.
Research that leads to publications such as the 60s Manchester logs requires at least one of two things to have happened a long time ago. Either enthusiasts having access to and copying down the information in detail at the time on a long-term regular basis, or the original records having been archived and survived fifty years. As the 1960 records published on the web concentrates on airliners, without light aircraft movements, I'm assuming that they are largely the former.
In the case of Liverpool Airport, spotters records were compiled, principally, initially by Phil Butler from 1956. The policy of the Liverpool based enthusiasts, was to record ALL visiting aircraft and the first visit each year of scheduled airliners, but not times. Time of arrival and departure, and regular airline movements/timetables, were only noted from 1979 and enthusiast published from 1986. It is all these records that permit me to compile the likes of the 'Type Reviews' with such certainty that I have every visit covered and to compile arrival and departure dates for resident aircraft in the Liverpool based operators histories on this forum.
Phil, Dave and myself have for the past two years been looking into web publication of our 50s, 60s and 70s hand-written records, and extending these into the 80s and 90s from contact copying the already printed records. A deal of work is involved, with a start anticipated early next year. We don't have arrival and departure times in the hand-written logs, but do have regn, type, from and to, for every visiting aircraft since 1956. Nor do we have a complete record of schedules or timetables until around 1969 (anyone help out here?).
That covers the enthusiast records. In the very early 80s the Merseyside County Council archivist collected together quite a number of documents from the Airport. For a long time after the end of M.C.C. (1984) they went into deep storage with the M.C.C.'s own records as a 'M.C.C. Residual' (effectively 'leftovers'), that eventually were accepted by the Liverpool Records Office. Phil Butler eventually got some access, but the records are in numerous boxes, the content of each being uncatalogued. These are currently back in deep storage as the Liverpool Record Office and Central Library is being totally renovated and rebuilt until 2013. As far as I am aware, the type of record collected by the M.C.C. archivist were mostly passenger flight ledgers, recording all airline movements and passenger figures, rather than Air Traffic Control records, recording every landing and take-off movement. I have no idea what sort of original documents are available to the Manchester researchers.
I am currently close to completion of the project to record all Liverpool based aviation operators, with final three near complete, and likely to be posted around Christmas/New Year. After a couple more 'Type Reviews', the way is clear to start on getting the 1960s decade record on the web, alongside the mid 2006 onwards monthly records already published on nwan.co.uk. Probably in much the same format, with monthly movements and comment; with an Annual Review covering airlines, routes, timetables, residents list, all visiting aircraft regn lists etc.
At present the monthly records are put together by Dave Graham using MS Office Word. There is a desire to have the historic records fully searchable ie using MS Excel. Does anyone out there have experience of using Excel to compile movements logs and transfer to html for the web? Or of mixing excel lists and word paragraphs on uplift as web html? I'd welcome a PM if so, as I'd like to avoid any pitfalls if at all possible!

Viscount.
Your comments make interesting reading.
The research into 1960 for example, required months of visiting the airport and Manchester Library painstakingly extracting the information. All airline movements and the 'larger' light aircraft such as the Heron or Dove are included. This information has been collated over a twenty year period! and virtually complete from 1960-2010, though some years in the 1960's are still be completed.
The decision was taken not to include the light aircraft as it would of taken much more time and effort and make each document considerably larger in size, particularly once you get to the late 1970's, although all foreign aircraft are/will be included.
As far as the current website goes, there is a wealth of information still to be uploaded onto the site, but will take time.
I would like to think that what Ringway Publications has done could become a catalyst for every major airport to have a historical website such as Ringway Through The Decades.
But make no mistake, I have researched and published my first book 'SEVENTIES RINGWAY' with others to follow, the effort that needs to be put in is enormous....!

Information has been collated over a twenty year period! and virtually complete from 1960-2010. Is there any sign of either VH-EAA or VH-EAB both Qantas 747SB's. As I recall, the aircraft was in the old colours and would suspect it was on a ferry flight for maintenance at Dublin. I've been told that a Qantas 747SB has never landed at Manchester but then again I've also been informed that neither KLM or Panam 747's have ever graced the runway at Speke. I would be extremely grateful if you could tell me that I haven't been dreaming. Steve

Afraid not. No Qantas B.747SP ever made it to Manchester.

Strange, I definitely remember seeing one and it certainly wasn't at Heathrow. I recall looking down on it from the newly opened walkway on top of Manchesters terminal one extension. Obviously, the back half of the 80's. Possibly, just looked like an SP from the angle I was standing, either that or there was an SP in at the same time and I'm getting the two mixed up.
Thanks for taking a look for me. Now.......what did I do with that pillow.
