The first coach of the day gets to LJLA at 0450, well in time for the first wave of departures. A taxi from your Wirral house to Birkenhead and then the coach should be better for most than getting a taxi all the way, or getting friends and relatives to bring you (with the tunnel fees).

I feel that this item should have been titled New Coach Service to LIVERPOOL Airport. The 10 calls in each direction opens up the National Express network for Liverpool by connections over Norton Street Coach Station (yes I know the 500 service can perform a similar function). The spread of hours of operation should greatly assist Public Transport access to Liverpool John Lennon Airport with coaches due to arrive at the airport from both directions before 5am.

It looks like this service is really starting to kick-off. Initially, the first five coaches I saw only one had two passengers but this has started to change. Although still small in number, I'm seeing people queuing at the stop and persons getting off too. I spoke to one of the drivers and he confirms it is getting busier but the most he had had on for JLA was 10. Not bad for this time of year, especially when there not extensively advertising it. It's also part of a five year contract with Selwyns (lets hope it goes the full length). With prices for car parking at £30 per day this can only be good for the traveling public - roll on the summer!

As someone said on another thread, 'this has to be the most expensive airport in the UK to fly from' I'm sure I read it right - long stay starts at £30 for 24 hours. Short stay starts at £2 for 20 minutes with drop off charges starting at £2 from just 5 minutes. I'm sure if people throughout the North west/east of England and those from North Wales, thought about calculated the cost of the flight plus parking and cost of fuel for getting here they wouldn't bother using the car. This is why National Express is such a good deal.

Its not cheap, but it is NOT the most expensive car parking, not even close. Your figures may be true for 24 hours, but I have got 18 days of parking for a total of £55.00p later in January. Cheaper that a return taxi from my home and not having the worry of the taxi not turning up. As I said, not cheap, but nowhere near the figures quoted.

Very true, you can get it as cheap as £2.89 per day for on-site car parking.

Car parking is like most things In travel - plan and book in advance you'll get a fair deal. Turn up and buy on the day you'll get stung. As so often is the case though now days people are too quick to accept headline figures...

I had heard you can get cheaper rates if you booked on the internet but didn't think you could get on-site parking that cheap. The cheapest I'd heard of for off-site parking was £4 per day. I suppose it is only business users and those who have to travel at short notice that will get stung by the advertised rates.

I see that MAN have upped their car parking charges to £2.50 for 30 minutes. They are also charging for the use of their trolleys at £1 a go.

I spoke with a driver on the Nat Ex service today and he said that some journeys are getting good loads. He anticipated busier times ahead when other Nat Ex services are re-timed at the end of February and when the summer air schedules are in force.

The changes will come into force on the 27th. Other good news for the airport is that National Express are introducing three new routes that will link up with the airport service at both Liverpool and Manchester City Centres. Two cover an area of North Wales that we hoped 'Airport by Coach' would cover, namely the 385, a year round service from Bangor to Manchester via Rhyl and Liverpool together with a 386 service between 2nd June and 2nd September from Pwellheli to Manchester via Rhyl and Liverpool. The third a number 580 will run from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Liverpool via Sunderland and Manchester.
On a different note I'm hearing strong rumours that the airport are going to go ahead with charging bus companys to use the airport. Can anyone confirm this and if so do you know what the pricing structure will be?

I see that MAN have upped their car parking charges to £2.50 for 30 minutes. If you stay longer than 20 minutes it's still cheaper than Liverpool and with the added bonus that you can actually see some aircraft
