Anybody know the latest on roadworks on the bridge this weekend Saturday 3rd March & Sunday 4th March 2012. Anything ongoing, I was told some roadworks commenced yesterday 1st March but should be completed within 24 hrs. Thanks Les Mc

Les I am not sure of the completion date but it won't be for quite a few weeks yet. They are fitting higher fences on either side of the pedestriam walk-way to deter "jumpers". They have cordoned off a strip of the roadway for the use of pedestrians and made the rest into two lanes. Why they did not stop all pedestrian access and put on a bus to carry them back and too I don't know. It would have made more sense and keep the bridge up and running as normal. Hope this helps, Regards Beemer. It you want a quicker crossing try using watkinson Way that takes you from junction 7 M62 straight onto the bridge.

...and as for the actual duration of these tedious weekend lane closures "from 27th January" is all they tell us on the signs...like that is any use!!!

That sounds encouraging at first until you realise that these works have been going on almost continuously for the past few years. Just because that particular phase of ongoing maintenance happens to be due for completion in the next couple of weeks doesn't mean the next equally disruptive work will not start almost immediately. I'd like to be wrong, but bridge-related stress has become more or less permanent. Misplaced optimism just makes it worse!

Thanks for all your comments I approached the bridge at 1035 on Saturday morning 3rd March from Halewood heading towards Runcorn. Actually sailed across there was the inevitable one lane each way open bit heavy on the approach to the bridge but other than that, no problem. Good idea to take a look at the webcam before setting off as gives you an idea of any lengthy tailbacks, link attached. www.halton.gov.uk/transport/haltononview.htmlRegards Les Mc ;D

I am planning to go to John Lennon airport on Saturday evening, is the slip road to the bridge coming from the M56 closed and if so what are the diversion plans - if any ?

There are a few roads you can take but the most straight forward one is go past the closed slip road and under a rail and a road bridge and you take the right turn into a retail park at the first set of lights. Do a "U" turn in the retail park and turn left at the exit and this will take you across the bridge. Hope this helps Parker. Regards Beemer.

This is copied from the HBC web site. The maintenance works on the Silver Jubilee Bridge are continuing and the next phase of overnight and weekend lane closures has commenced.
There will be weekend and overnight (7pm to 6am) lane closures from Monday 26th March until mid-July.
This will involve the closure of two lanes on the bridge with single lane running in each direction.
In addition it will be necessary to close the following slip roads
Off slip from Weston Point Expressway to the Bridge – Closed most weekends and overnight Slip road from the Bridge to Weston Point Expressway (Trumpet loop) Slip road from the Bridge to Bridgewater Expressway (Town viaduct) Only one of the last two closures will be implemented at any time.
Suitably signed alternative routes will be provided. In addition for traffic travelling from M56 Junction 12 Clifton will be signed via Central and Bridgewater Expressway.
The maintenance work being undertaken is essential to ensure the integrity of the bridge and traffic disruption, particularly at weekends, is likely. Halton Borough Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

If it is any consolation, it looks like the road works on the bridge have been suspended during the Bank Holiday week-end except for the Road Race on Easter Sunday (which will take place from 9.15am to 9.50am). This will involve the closure of two lanes on the bridge with single lane running in each direction.
. Regards Beemer.

What a pleasure it was to drive across to-day and the same goes for the rest of the week-end [not counting a couple of hours Sunday while the race is on ] without having to use diversions and rat runs. Regards Beemer.
