What reason did they give last time for ceasing the route?

I think it was ryanair that forced flybe to stop the route.

Mmmmm....don't rightly know the answer to "LFC84's" question, but the dates of operation don't quite back-up "737Tony1's" answer. Although to be fair, that is what I first thought before looking at my notes, although find it was Flybe who took-over when Ryanair moved off the route in dispute with the airport owner over runway extension timing. I had forgotten too that Flybe have been on the route twice before. Seem to think that in 2011 Flybe kept cutting the frequency of flights, until it effectively petered out due to lack of customer choice. AIRLINES ON THE LIVERPOOL-BELFAST HARBOUR/CITY ROUTE: --.05.83 08.01.95 Manx Airlines. Moved service from Aldergrove, used SD.330, SD360, F-27, ATP. Became a BA Franchise operated service 09.01.95 --.05.01 BA Regional Express with J41 and BAe.ATP. Route given up in face of EZY competition into Belfast International 10.02.05 24.03.07 Flybe, with Dash 8. 30.10.07 30.10.10 Ryanair, with Boeing 737-800 31.10.10 07.11.11 Flybe, with Dash 8s 02.02.15 Flybe, presumably with Dash 8s
Just noticed the neat symmetry that February 2015 will be 10 years since they first operated the route in February 2005. Third time lucky hopefully for a long association between route and airline.

According to the CAA statistics, 195k passengers used the route in 2010, falling to 73k in 2011, so lots of opportunity to go for. Note that both of those years would have seen the route in competition with easyJet at BFS. I suspect that a number of the previous BHD passengers may have moved onto Flybe's service to MAN.

Looking at the CAA stats over 630,000 used the combined Belfast airports to LPL at its peak, Last year easy carried 413,000 so as eye2eye5 said 'lots of opportunity to go for'
Hopefully Flybe will add extra weekend flights once the route becomes established.

Timings at LJLA from and to BHD are: 0745-0825 Monday to Saturday. This allows a possible swap with the IOM aircraft. 1335-1400 Monday to Friday 2005-2030 Sunday to Friday Fares from £49.98 return. The sharp fall in passenger numbers during the height of the recession in 2011 was the reason for ending the route.

Great news! Wonder if the airport can convince Flybe to give DUB a go, their codeshare with EI would then offer US connections. Business friendly day returns could work well and give an alternative to FR.

Just checked their website, only Feb and March flights loaded so far, anyone know when they might load the April flights? That would make a good trip, LPL-BHD-LCY John j

Yes John J, but how do you propose returning to LPL from LCY? I am looking at LPL-IOM-BHD-LPL (or vv) 3 airlines, 3 types (EZY, BEE and CityWings/ A.319, Dash 8, Let 410) mainly as a way of getting a flight in the Let 410. Brian J.

Looked last night, three flights a day IoM-Belfast City (4 on Friday, less at weekends). It was only the IoM-Blackpool sector that is currently suspended. I would agree that their website is not the most informative and to get details of flight timings I had to use the IoM Airport site. On weekdays there is a lunch-time IoM-BHD rotation with plenty of time between either the morning and evening LPL connection.

Yes Brian that looks good jolly. There is also Aer lingus / BA to Heathrow from BHD. Virgin trains is normally the cheapest way back to liverpool from london.
