I know that this sort of set up requires bonds, but how safe will the company be? They operated throughout 2013 from Humberside so do have some credibility, but I can't help thinking if the flights are launched from Liverpool, especially to destinations already served, the local media will dig out the stories of the failed attempt by the same lad some years back and that'll be the downfall.

In terms of Jetxtra, perhaps people should be more prepared to give the guy credit for showing some resilience and trying again (hopefully learning from past mistakes). Having operated without issue from Humberside last year the company presumably has passed the required due diligence to satisfy the 'authorities' and as such people should refrain from trying to undermine something potentially positive before it is even confirmed.

The airport reports the charters are the first to Liverpool by Iberia. I can remember a season of A300 flights. Did these use Aviaco flight numbers?

I fully agree there, he is ATOL registered and 2013 passed off without incident. In 2014-15 they will operate their first winter programme so the company is moving forward and if flights are offered from Liverpool should be embraced not have mud slung at him from 9 years ago.

I'm not able to consult my mid '80s mags at present, so cannot add certain fact to the Iberia question. The origin of the question is doubt over the accuracy of a statement made on the LJLA website news items on the Arrivals & Departure pages regarding a short series of flights being the first regular charters operated by Iberia (albeit a short season of 4 flights) into Liverpool. I think that either Duggan Holidays or Santana Holidays actually operated flights for a full season, one year using Iberia Boeing 727s, but it will be next week that before I can match vague memory with certain fact. However for absolute certainty Iberia brought in Airbus A.300 aircraft during the I/T season in 1984, but for just two weeks (so don't really count as a regular charter flight operation) - they were used due to Aviaco combining their two similar timed DC-9 flights on behalf of competitors Santana and Duggan for the May half-term flights. I can state this for certain without my books to hand as all Airbus A.300 movements into LJLA are covered on this forum on a thread: www.derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/164

The Iberia 727s and A300s did indeed operate through Liverpool using Aviaco flight numbers.

What are the Iberia flights for? Information from LJLA confirms, "we do know they are all Spanish students coming over. Don’t know where to or what for though". ..................................... I can also confirm the earlier Duggan/Santana Iberia charter flights for which we in FoLA prepared and served passengers with sandwiches in the Portacabin Departure 'Lounges' adjacent to the then Terminal when other refreshment facilites were 'not available'. This was a late night 'extension' to the FoLA provision of all refreshment facilities in the (Old) Terminal for several weeks when the official caterers had downed tools during an 'industrial dispute' with the Airport. FoLA to the rescue .......again!
