It maybe a Liverpool paper but it also promotes flights from MAN when we have those same flights exLPL. But the paper has to take in revenue from advertising, no matter its source as long as it is legitimate. Its just the same as seeing a Ryanair ad in the Manc evening news, with flights from LPL. Also the travel section of many local rags in the North West will have 'flights from LHR', despite there being similar 1 stop, or direct, options from the North west, particularly galling is seeing Dubai advertised as a London departure point. Its just something we have to suck up and let be, the papers will not cut off a large revenue stream just to appease a few spotters.

Ignore it all. This kind of stuff has been going on for decades. Nothing can change it. It has virtually no impact one way or another. The more local the newspaper, the more amateur it is. Same the world over. Chill. RT.

Interesting set of opinions here so let me put in something factual. For over 20 years I worked for a national company and moved to a large south of England city to do their publicity/media relations. I discovered that the local paper had a 'down' on our company through a personal experience of the then Editor. I told the company MD that I was going to change the attitude of the local paper and he wished me Good Luck. It took two years to change the attitude by constantly giving the reporters quality stories - in many cases exclusive stories - that they had never experienced before from the company. I also put good stories the way of the local radio stations who lapped them up. This is not a bragging exercise on my part as I am now retired but suffice it to say that attitudes can be changed. If I were in charge at LJLA I would charge one trusted member of the media team with the task of changing attitudes across the local media - radio, TV, daily newspapers and periodicals. It is not easy and requires someone who is willing to be on call 24 hours a day. But let me tell you, it works. It may take longer than 2 years but that is the unknown in all of this. Newspapers don't necessarily have a down on people/businesses but they do recognise an easy target. Give them the positives and it makes life easier for them - they are then more willing to listen to you. Don't ask me to do it, please - I am now retired from the rat-race!

Just for the record, people who post on here are not all spotters, and in my case, will never be spotters. My apologies. Let me substitute 'spotter' for 'Liverpool airport enthusiast' (doesn't make it sound any 'cooler', or get me any more 'street cred', but hey ho as long as your happy).

Route 500
Further to my comments on the 11th December Arriva are not to get competition from ACE Travel but Stagecoach are. Although the route is slightly different (and may I say a better one than is currently operated) ACE have decided to depart the airport at exactly the same time as Stagecoach (2350) with just one journey per day.
Although Arriva will no doubt be pleased (me included) that they are not getting serious competition I'm sure it's bitterly disappointing for many on this forum. However, the 500 is not the most profitable route operating from the airport and most certainly could not sustain two operators.

A few things that we already knew and few we didnt in this article taken from www.thebusinessdesk.com/northwest/news/416274-john-lennon-airport-owner-rings-the-changes.html?news_section=4158# LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport has a new parent company and will have a new chief executive from April after a major reorganisation. The new parent company is Vantage Airports UK and the business will be led by Matthew Thomas, currently commercial director for Canadian parent company Vantage Airport Group. Mr Thomas replaces Craig Richmond, who has led the business since June 2010, and who is moving to a group role based in Cyprus later this year. In a further development, founding shareholder Peel Group has re-acquired Vantage's shares in Doncaster Sheffield Airport in Yorkshire. Peel, which originally sold a stake in all three of its airports - to Vantage in 2010, has now re-acquired both smaller regional assets after buying back Durham Tees Valley in 2011. Vantage sole UK investment is now its 65% shareholding of Liverpool John Lennon Airport. It will however continue to provide aviation services to all the airports - a new subsidiary company, Vantage Air Traffic Services (Vantage ATS) has been created to provides air traffic services for Liverpool, Doncaster Sheffield and Durham Tees Valley airports. Mr Richmond, who is leaving on March 31, said: "This is an exciting time for Liverpool John Lennon Airport. There were a number of announcements made towards the end of last year, including new routes from Ryanair and easyJet and the signing of a long term deal with Wizz Air. "We also came to an agreement with Norwegian - Europe’s third largest low cost airline that will see them commence flights from Liverpool for the first time, with a service to Copenhagen in the spring.”

Does anyone know if the old Pricebuster car park next to the car hire area is still being used? Just tried to book it and all that seems available on the map are the long stay and premium options.

I got the impression that the car park operators close down sections that are further away from the terminal during the winter months.

Indeed.. The Airport's own press release from yesterday - 7th January 2013 News Release Change in leadership at Liverpool John Lennon Airport New routes, new agreements, new airline and new CEO ahead in 2013 Vantage Airports UK, the company that owns Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA), today announced a change in leadership at JLA. Outgoing CEO, Craig Richmond, will leave the post on 1st March 2013 to take up a senior position within the Vantage Airport Group network in Cyprus. Incoming CEO Matthew Thomas is currently Commercial Director for the Vantage Airport Group, having held a number of senior airport positions both in the UK and internationally. “This is an exciting time for Liverpool John Lennon Airport,” said Richmond. “There were a number of announcements made towards the end of last year, including new routes from Ryanair and easyJet and the signing of a long term deal with Wizz Air. We also came to an agreement with Norwegian - Europe’s third largest low cost airline that will see them commence flights from Liverpool for the first time, with a service to Copenhagen in the spring.” Vantage Airports UK is the new name for the partnership between Vantage Airport Group and The Peel Group which jointly own Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The new branding aligns the Company more closely with majority shareholder Vantage Airport Group, an industry-leading investor, developer and manager of airports around the world. The rebranding is also linked to the formation of a new subsidiary company, Vantage Air Traffic Services (Vantage ATS) which provides Air Traffic Services for Liverpool, Doncaster Sheffield and Durham Tees Valley Airports. The distinctive branding for Liverpool John Lennon Airport remains unchanged. Craig Richmond and Matthew Thomas - the outgoing and incoming CEOs are FoLA's guest speakers this evening at our monthly meeting - should be a good one...and don't forget the FoLA event at the Crowne Plaza on Sunday too! This one is open to all.
