I have just read Easyjet will be starting Manchester to Iceland flights, seems Manchester is more their airport of interest in the Northwest of late.

All that can be said is "LJLA is doomed",while MAN expands LPL shrinks i'm sorry to say it but there it goes.

Well easyjet today released another press release regarding more proposed MAN expansion, saying they want to be the 2nd largest carrier there, but, they also said (again) that MAN growth will not be at the expense of LPL.

her e-mail to me the other week made her sound positive, but reading between the lines it was shallow winsome words do not make for good reading the emphasis is now on building up MAN at LPL expense we all need to be realists and see that there will be NO MORE expansion of routes from LPL,like i have said before we are now content for the crumbs off Manchesters table, while our management seem to keep their heads buried in the sand

FR443. The text of the LJLA Press Release on the topic of EasyJet's 30 millionth passenger through Liverpool is on post#49 at the very bottom of the previous page of this thread. Clearly this press release is the basis of the Opodo news item.

Charlie,
Al Gayward stated MAN will NOT grow at the expense of LPL.
Whilst I firmly believe it is not all doom and gloom at LPL (I doubt easyjet will shrink again at LPL), one does have to wonder just what the current management are doing.
MAN, BHX, LBA, NCL, EMA, LGW, LTN, EDI, HUY, CWL, GLA and BRS all have confirmed new routes starting in 2013, whether it be one route or ten. However, there is one pattern of airport operators that have no new routes starting next year, either none at all or summer season returnees, and that is the Peel/VAS portfolio. LPL has lost routes, DSA summer seasonal returns and DTV stagnant.
At the end of the day, this debacle is now nothing to do with MAN vs LPL, its about why pretty much every UK airport has new routes next year apart from the VAS/Peel 3. Why are these lacking so much in new routes? The focus should not be 'well MAN now has this', and 'easyjet obviously have no business sense'. The question should be why are management not out fighting to keep their current route structure, let alone getting new ones.
For example, Ryanair have transferred routes from LPL to MAN. Given a lot of people state the catchments are very similar, Ryanair obviously wanted to continue to serve the North West market for the routes they transferred, so one has to ask, did LPL management put up a fight to keep them at LPL? Surely if the markets are similar, and LPL is cheaper (like people say), then surely it would have been an easy convincer for LPL to keep the routes there? But instead, seems like there was no contest at all?

R.I.P Easyjet LJLA!!!,once again Liverpool Airport management are missing the boat (should that be planes). It reminds me, in 1973 i think LPL had over 500,000 pax and lost 250.000+ in the next few years, here we go again!! R I P.

RIP? No ones pulled out! But I do have to agree with what has been said above about new routes from almost every other airport in the country except peel/VAS's. However there is still a few weeks though in which something could be announced, its not too late! I might just be being optomistc but it will be the end of oct/nov when we really have to worry. Remember Ryanair havent released their summer 13 schedule yet and judging by the cut backs for the winter there should be a couple of new/returning routes for next summer.

Ryanair could indeed add a new route or 2 for 2013, as has been the pattern in the past few years so no reason to break the cycle now. However when they tend to announce one route at the expense of another (unless they base an extra aircraft), can it really be considered a gain?
However in all fairness to LPL, there was one new route that was due to start this winter, being OLT express to Bygoscz. It was purely that their business plan was flawed from the outset that it never came to fruition.

As I have said previously, there are gaps on five days of its peak summer schedules in 2013.

how long in advance are routes planned, announced, agreed. Surely it can't be a quick decision thing.. Will Ryanair look at the routes easy dropped and think we can get in there? Don't know how all this works..
