Do'nt know if this is the right section for this but here go'es. After taking the plane to work for the last fourty years,Liverpool was always preferred to Manchester. The new winter timetable came into effect a few weeks ago for the BA shuttle down to Heathrow and the weekend service provided is a joke. I do'nt like the drive so my last resort was the train from South Parkway or Runcorn, what a breath of fresh air, 15 plus services a day, no security search at either end and best of all, a confirmed seat for £47 instead of the £90 plus i pay on staff travel. Congratulations to Virgin trains on a first class service, just a shame they do'nt make South Parkway a stop.

I quite agree. Have never understood why anyone would want to fly from the North West to Heathrow unless they had time & money to spare. Unless you are interlining at LHR it's much simpler & more relaxing to take the train.
I understand that Virgin are unable to stop at South Parkway station because the platforms there are too short for the London trains. Whoever designed this "new" station seemingly didn't give this any thought!

The unfortunate problem at LSP is the road bridge to the west and Allerton Junction to the east make it impossible to have the platform any longer than it is without a complete reshape. I wonder if it would be possible to "lock out" the coaches that don't fit the platform while it is in the station and have on-train and platform announcements specifying front x number of coaches only, for LSP

Also Virgin were concentrating on reducing the headline time for Liverpool-Euston. This was achieved by cutting out a number of others stops en-route which means changing trains or using slower services to reach certain towns. At present I would think it most unlikely that a call at LSP will be introduced although I feel it would be very useful for South Liverpool to avoid having to go to Lime Street or Runcorn.

The problem is easily solved with the use of land transport but would the airport be willing or able to either pay for or subsidise it? All that's needed is an express bus link to Runcorn Station. Pity Runcorn isn't in Merseytravels catchment area as I feel sure the 501 would operate from Runcorn rather than LSP as LSP is already well connected with the airport through the 80A and 86A services.
