The more I read this kind of stuff, the more I realise what a fantastic resource this forum and other like it are. There is an appeal beyond the core interest. I hope there is away of preserving it all against the possibility at some time in the future of the host shutting up shop or some other disaster causing it all to be lost. Local history museum intervention perhaps.

First, thank you Peter for following-up with the results of research into the production from factories that I grew up with and for a while worked within sight of. I well remember those lorries with open crates stacked with car panels moving between sites.
Ron, I agree that the transitory nature of a forum is not the best location for preserving material, but it is a great one for stimulating exchange of memories and details. Indeed we on NWAN lost a great when the forum host was closed down by regulators overnight back in 2009. I have much of the information in my nostalgia threads backed-up on my PC, but if Proboards failed much would indeed be irredeemably be lost.
There was at one time an excellent site relating to Cambrian Airways, a massive resource of detail relating to the airline, which just disappeared. I suspect on the site owner's death the family just pulled the plug without appreciating what a memorial to him the site was! However that is not always the case. I discovered a site on a Google of my father's WWII RAF Service Number, dedicated to a guy who was on the same flying training course in the USA as my father in 1941/42 and included a course list. There was even a photo of him in my father's photo album! The site related to a pilot who had been killed in action during WWII, the well researched site was created by pilot's son and is now maintained by his grandson, although has moved from a web-site to a social media platform.
Thread drift I know, but how best to ensure how my Liverpool Airport research and image collection is passed on and not lost on death does concern me.
