Well the strike is on, because on Sunday night, we didn't go nose on to the terminal, presumably because there are no push-back crews. The baggage took ages to come off the flight, presumably because there is only a very limited apron staff (management?) at present. It was reported on BBC North-West this morning that the fire crews may come out in sympathy, which will of course close the airport. The Servisair strike (as I understand it), is about planned redundancies. Actually, I'm surprised that there's been so little comment about it on the boards, given the effects it could have.

So far the action appears to have little or no effect on aircraft movements or pax, with no flights cancelled as a direct result and virtually all flights on time according to the FlightStats site. It has to be remembered that Servisair deal with only around 50% of the LPL pax traffic. Hopefully an amicable settlement will be reached.

Bad news at Liverpool airport and the BBc are there already. Never saw them mention the new services including the extra whizz to Prague etc. But then are they based somewhere outside of Liverpool?

A strike at MAN this weekend? News to me. Thanks LPL for the info; I know I would not have got it if I had waited for the BBC to tell me. They don't do negative stories about Manchester per se. When viewing the two airport stories look at how they are presented. LPL will have the strikers with placards outside the building with a negative backdrop to the picture. MAN will have a management spokesman inside the terminal speaking positively with, as a backdrop, passengers still booking in. The media story is the same in both instances but it is the presentation that creates the positive/negative response. The BBC are skilled at this subtle means of presenting a story. Remember - one picture can represent a thousand words.

Yesterday I saw yet another example of BBC Manchester bias. On BBC1 yesterday morning, when the regional news came on BBC North West told us "an announcement is expected later today from Network Rail about the building of a new high speed rail line to connect Manchester with London".
The story had already been fed to the media, with names of other main cities & towns, including Liverpool, Preston & Warrington, that would be connected but it was only much later in the day, after complaints, that BBC North West finally mentioned this, after other channels had already done so. They are either biased or blinkered!

.......... and have you noticed that the bias also extends to road information? The BBC always say that the M6 is from Birmingham to Manchester. As far as the two North West airports are concerned, the BBC seem to have it in for Liverpool and are in love with Manchester. Hey ho! - it's something we have to live with, I suppose.

... and the BBC weather report as well. The weather woman shows the weather in Scotland, all down the east coast, spends a while around London and then along the south coast to Lands End (who lives there?) and then straight across to northern Ireland. Excuse me! Didn't you miss out Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire. My pet hate weather readers. Why have a silly woman stood outside in the Blue Peter garden in the pouring rain when it could be done just as easy indoors.

Sadly, that's all too true. I wouldn't mind if it was accurate! I fear that our all-embracing government has hijacked even the whether (deliberate spelling) forecast, and spins it! With regard to the Manchester bias, I fear this is all too true as well, and will only get worse when the BBC (eventually) moves to Salford Quays. They have put a lot of effort into making themselves what they now believe is Britain's second city, including the twinning with Los Angeles , whilst those responsible for promoting Liverpool seem to have gone to sleep since last year. I still find it amazing that you cannot travel from N Wales to Liverpool (and v.v.) by direct train service, and I'm equally amazed that those in Liverpool who are responsible have done so little about it, especially since the opening of Liverpool 1.

Garstonboy -
There is (and has been for quite awhile) an on-going plan/quest to get the Halton Chord (Curve) rail-line up-graded which will allow exactly that.
Covered regularly in the "Surface Access to LPL" section of FoLA's excellent 09/27.
