Heres me, at FL70 over the Wirral on a flight from IOM to EMA, you can just make out the landing lights of LPL. It was an uneventful flight with some lightning observed over the Peak District. However I made the mistake of letting the autopilot take me down the ILS at EMA and crashed half a mile short of the 27 threshold.

Hi Darren, You have two choices of either Vatsim or IVAO. I know that Icebreaker flys on Vatsim and I think i remember someone else being on IVAO. Vatsim: www.vatsim.net/Ivao: gb.ivao.aero/I myself am i member on the vatsim network and if i remember correctly its the biggest community stretching all round the world. Its great fun with Real ATC guiding you everystep of the way. Not sure what else to say Darren, so anything you want to ask.... Reply, and I will do my best to answer it. Callum

I'd second what wings11 said, flying online with VATSIM is really good (as I'm sure it is with IVAO). I've only done a couple of short flights so far, started out with doing a couple of simple traffic patterns around Liverpool months ago, then last weekend I did a quick hop from Hawarden to Liverpool. I have to say, considering it's a simulated environment it definately feels serious enough (at least to me as a non-real world pilot) . Last weekend for example, I was just flying the Bell 206 from Hawarden , contacted Liverpool approach but must admit I didn't know how far away I should have done it , and was politely asked if I knew I was inside Liverpool controlled airspace. oops! No harm done, and I got instructions to join right traffic , contact & inform tower etc , then once I'd spoken with tower they changed me to 1st for landing , so a quick change of course and I was lined up for 09 (then messed by by exiting the taxiway at tha hold before I was told,,oops!)
in short, it's great fun, and a good learning experience certainly!

Vatsim an Ivao you need Squawkbox or FSInn, connection port is 23457 an I.P on the multiplayer is 127.0.0.1 this will bring up your local computer an tell you that you are connecting to squawkbox, if anyone has any problems, get Teamspeak Client an enter flythelimit.com:9001 in the address an password 2332 an connect, this is my own VA an i can give you any directions/help towards flying online on Vatsim/Ivao.
Thanks Chris (AEU666/JFK500)

Talk about timing! I'm just in the process of signing up to VATSIM and downloading the squawkbox thingy, and it looks a bit complicated, so I may be availing you of your offers of assistance. I was given FS2002 as a birthday gift in 2002 . but I never really got into it, I was more into playing Battlefield Vietnam online. I joined a clan purely to play it. The LXB--League of eXtraordinary B******s. So I'm used to teamspeak, and have a half decent headset. Since the clan folded and the game has been overtaken in popularity by the likes of COD4/5, Ive been getting back into the world of FS, but there is so much I dont know or even understand. I quite like the idea of flying for a VA, but it would have to be in small stuff, I havent yet got to grips with 'flying the big jets'. I'll let you know how I get on, and maybe even follow you in traffic on an approach to LPL!!

Battlefield Vietnam. Was one of the better of the series but battlefield 2 and the eagerly anticipated BF3 are better in my opinion.

Must be a generation thing, being older than yourself, DC10, BFV and its accompanying soundtrack appealed to me. I found BF2 a bit clinical and lacking in, dare I say it, a sense of fun. Seeing a gook flying through the air, arms and legs flailing like an olympic swimmer after you'd just set off your claymore never failed to make me chuckle. And jumping into a Huey gunship, switching on the radio and playing Ride of the Valkyries as you strafe a peasant village was just as good as watching Apocalypse Now.

Cloudwarrior, Vatsim Liverpool and Manchester ATS coverage has to be experienced to be believed, its top notch. When you have had a taste, come back and tell me if I was wrong ;o) Consider FSinn also, it is more articulate and functional for showing other traffic types. I suggest going for circuit work first to get the hang of things then building up through x-country then onto larger IFR type work, obviously it is up to you Hope you have fun and will keep an eye out for you ;D Best Regards

Hi Darren and urgentemente.
Darren: If you get stuck or want charts and procedures etc for anywhere or want the vatsim reading material then just PM me and let me know. No probs there. Also, Vatsim is so realistic you can actually learn all your stuff from the NATS site which you may be used too? Charts, NOTAMS etc.. You'll find your feet :-)
Ill go on teamspeak with you if you need it.
urgentemente:
Let me know your ID and I will keep my eyes peeled for you.
Drop me A PM :-)
All the best Callum
