FLY NAVY 100 FLYPAST – LIVERPOOL

A. FLY NAVY 100 Operation Order No 09/09 (Notal)
INTRODUCTION
1. Further to Reference A, the following measures have been agreed by AUS, with the organiser and airspace controlling authorities, to accommodate the subject Unusual Aerial Activity.
ACTIVITY
2. a. A flypast of RN fixed and rotary wing aircraft will over fly HMS ILLUSTRIOUS, berthed at the Cruise Liner Terminal, Liverpool at 1300 hrs. The event will mark the climax of the celebration of Fly Navy 100. The formation will consist of 3 sections:
a. LONGMORE Rotary and Light Fixed Wing elements.
b. MERCURY Fixed Wing elements.
c. COBHAM Fast Jet elements.
b. In the event of poor weather a limited flypast consisting of only Longmore Section will flypast at 500 ft.
c. Details of the make up of the various elements are given at Annex B

RADAR SERVICES
9. Outside Controlled Airspace the radar service throughout the flypast route will wherever possible be a Traffic Service, although due to limitations of equipment etc this cannot be guaranteed. Radar Control will be applied inside the Liverpool CTR. Crews should be aware that due to their range, and low altitude, en route any ATC service may be limited. Aircraft must be responsible for their own navigation and some ATS units may not be able to offer any radar vectoring or separation services.

LONGMORE SECTION FLYPAST ROUTE
11. a. On departure from RAF Shawbury the formation will route to the LONGMORE HOLD at 1,000ft amsl. The Rotary Wing elements will depart first, followed 10 minutes later by the Light Fixed Wing elements

b. The formation will them route: CHESTER VRP (IP 1) (5312N 00251W) - M53/M56 Intersection (IP 2) (5315N 00252W) - HMS ILLUSTRIOUS (5324N 003 00W). The formation will descend to be at 500ft amsl by IP 2.
c. After passing HMS ILLUSTRIOUS the formation will continue to Abeam Seaforth VRP (5328 00302W) and the commence gentle left turn passing north abeam Wallasey Island to the mouth of the River Dee from where it will disperse. Those elements detailed in Annex A to Ref A will route to RAF Woodvale and the others will either route back to RAF Shawbury to refuel or route direct to their bases in southern England.
d. The planned ground speed for this section will be 90 kts.
MERCURY SECTION FLYPAST ROUTE
12. a. On departure from RAF Shawbury the formation will route to the MERCURY HOLD at 1,500ft amsl.
b. The formation will them route: M53/M56 INTERSECTION (IP 2) (5315N 00252W) - HMS ILLUSTRIOUS (5324N 003 00W). The formation will descend to be at 1,000ft amsl by IP 2.
c. After passing HMS ILLUSTRIOUS the formation will continue to ABEAM SEAFORTH VRP (5328 00302W) and the commence gentle left turn passing north abeam Wallasey Island to the mouth of the River Dee from where the Jetstream aircraft will route to RNAS Culdrose and Seafire or Seafury to RNAS Yeovilton.
d. The planned ground speed for this section will be 180 kts.
COBHAM SECTION FLYPAST ROUTE
13. a. On departure from RAF Shawbury the formation will form up and hold in the overhead. The formation will then depart the hold at 2,000ft amsl.
b. The formation will them route: CHESTER VRP (IP 1) (5312N 00251W) -M53/M56 Intersection (IP 2) (5315N 00252W) - HMS ILLUSTRIOUS (5324N 003 00W). The formation will descend to be at 1,500ft amsl by IP 2.
c. After passing HMS ILLUSTRIOUS the formation will continue to Abeam Seaforth VRP (5328 00302W) and the commence gentle left turn passing north abeam Wallasey Island to the mouth of the River Dee from where the formation will disperse. The Harrier element (SATAN) will route south of the Liverpool CTR and Manchester CTA/TMA complex to RAF Cottesmore and the remainder of the formation will route to RNAS Yeovilton.
d. The planned ground speed for this section will be 300 kts.
AIR TO AIR FILMING
14. a. A DHFS Griffin Helicopter will route independently from RAF Shawbury to arrive ahead of the formation at a position to the west of the HMS Illustrious datum to
film the flypast from the air with HMS Illustrious and the City of Liverpool as a backdrop.

CO-ORDINATION ARRANGEMENTS
15. Operating Authority.
a. The Operating Authority has produced an Operations Order (Reference A) detailing ATC, emergency and flypast procedures for all participants.
b. Low Flying authorisation will be arranged between the Operating Authority, MODUKAIR DAS 1e and DAS 4b (Sec).
c. The Operating Authority accepts responsibility for the separation of aircraft and helicopters within and between the formations (MARSA).
d. The Operating Authority also accepts responsibility for the separation of the formation and the filming helicopter (MARSA).
16. ATC Authorities.
a. Prior to departing from RAF Shawbury the formation leaders and the DHFS Griffin pilot are to contact the Liverpool ATC Supervisor on to discuss requirements and to be allocated both frequencies and SSR codes.
b. The formation will transit the routes using normal ATC services as required. RAF Shawbury will hand the formation to Liverpool ATC. The same agencies will be used for the return transit for those aircraft returning to RAF Shawbury. Other aircraft will route to their respective bases under normal ATC services.
d. Crews must not change altitude or track within the Liverpool CTR without the prior approval of Liverpool ATC. Additionally, ac must not climb above the Control Zone or penetrate the Manchester TMA without prior clearance unless an aircraft emergency leaves the crew with no other option.
e. In the event that the formation will fly through, or adjacent to, an ATZ, the airfield should be contacted on the appropriate frequency.
f. Liverpool ATC will liaise with Hawarden ATC and advise them of the progress of the formations as they pass to east of the Hawarden ATC.
g. Whilst within Controlled Airspace the formation will be afforded Category E priority. In the event that an attempt is made to delay the flypast on the day, the formation will not be afforded Category E for the amended times.
17. Adjacent Airspace Users
a. Airfields, gliding sites and microlight sites adjacent to the flypast route have been advised of the formation flypast by means of this ACN and NOTAM action. All such organisations are requested to brief their airfield operators and club members on this activity and to suggest that the formation route is safely avoided by at least 3 nm either side of track.
RESTRICTIONS
18. a. Two way contact must be established with Liverpool ATC prior to any penetration of the Liverpool CTR.
b. Aircraft must not penetrate the Manchester CTR/TMA, except in emergency.

Airborne Spares and Unserviceable Aircraft
19. a. If an aircraft or helicopter suffers an unserviceability or emergency that necessitates leaving the formation, it is to clear IAW with the formation leaders' abort plan, return to base, or divert as required.
Cancellation Procedures
20. a. Full details of the cancellation procedures are contained within Annex D to
Ref A.
b. If the flypast is cancelled before the aircraft or helicopters are airborne the Air Director will inform Liverpool ATC and the other relevant ATC agencies actioned by this ACN as per the instructions in Annex D to Ref A
c. If the flypast is cancelled after the aircraft or helicopters are airborne, the Air Director is to advise Liverpool ATC or the controlling agency to transmit a pre-briefed abort codewords. If the formation leaders cancel the flypasts for any reason, the formation leader is to request his controlling agency to advise the Air Director. The controlling agency is requested to inform other ATC agencies, as appropriate.
b. The Air Director (Cdr I S Fitter RN on ) will be embarked onboard HMS Illustrious. (Mobile ).
AERONAUTICAL PUBLICATIONS
21. a. AUS will arrange for the issue of a NOTAM to cover all elements of this event.
b. The Project Officer is requested to promulgate this ACN to all military participants, other than those on this distribution list, as necessary.
AMENDMENT ACTION
22. Proposed changes to this ACN should be sent by the quickest means to AUS for the attention of AS1 () quoting the Activity Number at the top of page 1.
