They applied for 2 weekly Mon/Fri MUC-LPL, but remains to be seen if they will operate, As applied for lots of random routes such as 1 weekly MAN-DTM too, which I don't see happening.

Thank you 'eye2eye5' for the initial information, 'vctr' for the confirmation and 'Vanguard' for a touch of humour.
For information 'MUC' is Munich and 'DTM' is Dortmund.
Once again 'nwan forum' is ahead of any official word on the matter. Indeed I would draw everyone's attention to the words applied for, this is not yet confirmed as a new route from Liverpool, but is an important step 'behind the scenes' to enable operation to commence.
Be a matter now of waiting patiently for official confirmation by airline and airport that the service will indeed commence for summer '17. Beyond what we are informed about here, speculation at this stage will achieve nothing. What it does do, is to show us that (hopefully) more good news for summer '17 is on the horizon. Time, not debate here, will tell all eventually ... so hopefully roll-on the official announcements and the loading of the service into Eurowings's booking engine system - which could be into the New Year, but best sooner.

They have a base in Vienna, that would be a good route, but we'll have to wait and see.

I didn't think Eurowings would have a Munich base. I thought the agreement with parent company, Lufthansa, that they would take over all Lufthansa's regional flying with the exception of the Lufthansa hub bases at Frankfurt and Munich.
Also, I do not think Lufthansa would be happy at Eurowings starting Liverpool to Munich when the parent already operates thrice daily Manchester to Munich.

The post elsewhere suggests MUC to LPL/LBA/GLA. Frequency is not disclosed, whereas VCTR quotes M/F above thereby adding credence to the original post.

This is good news. The route stands more chance than Vuelings now abandoned route to Barcelona I think Munich was served in the 70's by ski charters but I could be wrong. Some have questioned why would Lufthansa allow the competition to their 3 x daily route from Man. German destinations have been under served from LPL . Lufthansa must have the info on where it's passengers come from. If both LPL & LBA areas attract good levels of passengers maybe they are aware of possible competition starting up. Jet2, EasyJet, Blue Air could easily expand. So maybe a degree of protectionism. Euro already operate from Glasgow to othe German destinations so this would be a logical expansion. Do Euro & Lufthansa interline with each other? Can't see anything on the website, except Lufthansa's logo. Be good if they do.

Eurowings do not interline with Lufthansa, at the moment, as they do not operate to the Lufthansa hubs at Frankfurt or Munich.

If this does happen it will be great , however I would think it could just be a ploy to get cheaper and better slots at Manchester only time will tell .

It looks very much like that Eurowings is moving into setting up a base in Munich. www.businesstraveller.com/business-travel/2016/12/19/lufthansas-eurowings-poised-munich-expansion/" Munich is about to become a major hub for Lufthansa’s Eurowings.
It is believed the budget subsidiary will be adding as many as 30 destinations to its Munich network. The new flights are set to be launched towards the end of March 2017.
An announcement is expected to be made this coming week.
Eurowings will be using some aircraft acquired by Lufthansa from Air Berlin in order to expand its network.
As an aside, it also sees Lufthansa and Gulf airline Etihad (which owns almost 30 per cent of Air Berlin) introduce code-sharing on a number of routes).
Why Munich? Until now Lufthansa has used Eurowings to develop short-haul international flights away from its twin hubs of Frankfurt and Munich.
For example, if you fly from London Heathrow to Hamburg or from Paris CDG to Berlin Tegel you will fly with Eurowings and not with Lufthansa mainline.
One suspects Lufthansa is concerned with developments at Munich which is now being targeted by low-cost carriers (LCCs).
Easyjet has been operating successfully out of Munich for a number of years without bothering Lufthansa.
Indeed, as we reported last year Lufthansa was reportedly in talks with Easyjet about interlining. But these talks came to nothing.
But new and future LCC arrivals will be more of a concern.
This year saw Transavia (the LCC operated by Air France/KLM) establish a base at Munich.
While Ryanair has been in discussions with Munich airport since October of last year with a view to expanding its German network.
Why is Lufthansa so worried?
Because the carrier needs a strong network of flights at Munich as feeders to its long-haul routes.
So far Ryanair has not appeared at Munich. The Irish airline continues to fly out of Memmingen which is about two hours away (from city centre Munich).
But Ryanair’s new policy, as we now see at Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Brussels and so on, is to move some operations from these far out airports to the main hubs.
It is only be a matter of time before Ryanair arrives (into Munich). Lufthansa cannot afford to be tardy.

Could be good news for us then, and if they are to launch as many as 30 new destinations they will have to be announced soon for sales.
