The Junction work from the Liverpool to Crewe line onto the curve was completed over Easter. new track has been laid on the curve itself. Services are due to start in December this year.

With the Halton Curve opening at last in December to allow direct trains from Chester ( and later to North Wales destinations) to South Parkway, it would seem an opportunity for the airport to promote the fact that there will be a new easier route from the west to reach Liverpool Airport.
While I was thinking of this, it occurred to me, that wouldn't it have been better had the station been names Liverpool Airport Parkway, like the one at Luton. This would have promoted the airport link much more than the current name.

Train services over the Halton Curve have been delayed to May 2019, rather than December this year. The line will offer trains from Liverpool via LSP and Runcorn to Chester and North Wales.
All the works have been completed, but the operator is short of trains !!!!

Following the comment above, I thought I would google some info on rail travel on Merseyside. the first thing I got was the attached network map. The Halton curve link is not mentioned. Not too surprising I suppose, but more importantly, LSP, is not highlighted as a major station, Liverpool Airport is not mentioned at all, and connections to Manchester are mentioned three times. www.merseyrail.org/_common/map/networkmap.htmIf I was a complete foreigner, I might have stopped my search there and been satisfied. Pity it was the first thing that jumped out at me. Digging a little deeper, I found the following which is better and has more detail. (And more routes.) I hope the Halton curve gets put onto this chart soon, just to make it clearer to the user there is a real connection there. www.merseytravel.gov.uk/Site%20Documents/MerseyrailNetworkMap.pdf

Shoot ourselves in the foot ! Personally I think LSP should be called Liverpool Airport Parkway.

A timetable has now been published for services from Liverpool to Chester via Halton Curve, basically an hourly service. There are a few trains to and from Wrexham also. More extensive services into Wales to follow.

If it opens on the 1st of May it will be 146 years since it was originally opened(01/05/1873)
