Whenever I type in material as columns, the resulting post deletes all the spaces so the entries all run into each other.
Is there a command to produce columns (as there was on xsorbit - if though the result was not always that wished for).
Can I import material currently held as files on MS Office Word or Excel? If so how?
As a dail-up internet customer, I notice that there is a great difference in size of photographs posted, and more especially the speed they appear on the screen. Indeed some never appear as anything more than a box with a red X inside. Is there a recommended pixel size that compromises between picture definition/size and loading speed ?

Hi Viscount,
I don't know about the command for columns etc. but I'll have a look into it. What was the command on the old forum?
As far as attachments are concerned, we can't attach any files to the posts as we're on a free account. Therefore, the best you can probably do is cut and paste the text from you existing files using 'Ctrl+c' and 'Ctrl+v'.
Pictures are always links to files hosted on other websites. If you get a red cross in a box this means the content has been blocked by your PC or you don't have access to the website they are hosted on. It's usually the former though, normally due to a firewall setting or something. There's no guideline for pixel size etc. at the moment but obviously bigger files will cause problems on dial-up connections.
Cheers,
Paul

The command for keeping straight columns is pre /pre (in square brackets) pre-formatted text command. Doing this without the pre tags would give (eg)... 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Now, if I put the pre tag before and after the number line that was actually spread out it gives:- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Note that pre-formatted text is presented in the forum as a smaller than original font, so you may want to also use the size=3 /size square bracketted tags to increase text size (replace 3 as required) This is the result on size=3 : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
put the size command (in its own square brackets) after the pre command and put the /size command before the /pre tag (ie keep the size command within the pre-formatted command). Hope this helps, but I don't know about importing MS Word or Excel stuff. As someone who has just transferred from dial-up to broadband, the posted photos here used to be a real pain if they were over 400k (and many of the Manchester ones are 500-800k +). I tend to keep pics I post here to around 100-120k at the most. This is easily done in (eg) Paint Shop Pro by saving the jpg as a more compressed file (eg 26 compression), this will take a 400k pic down to about 90k while remaining perfectly adequate quality-wise . Broadband really makes a heck of a difference though, I couldn't have re-built and uploaded the NWAN website without the superb upload speeds available, it would have taken an absolute age to put it all back. Also, Video and i-player stuff is just not an option while on dial-up. cheers, Dave
