It is with sadness I am reporting the sudden death of one of the long serving members and Moderator of this Forum, Tony Williams know as "tonyspeke". I don't know the circumstances of his death other than it was sudden. Our thoughts go to his friends and family. Beemer. Only photo of him I can find taken on his favourite spotting bench at Geneva. I have known Tony since our schoolboy days on the old airport balcony. He was a generous person , and knew more about aviation than almost anyone I can think of. Having moved to Speke a few years ago , Tony has only recently retired , and would have been looking forward to spending more of his time spotting. This news is very upsetting , a great friend lost. Thanks for all the help Tony , R.I.P.

Sad indeed.................and a terrible shock. Many will remember the selflessness and enthusiasm with which he ran the Merseyside Aviation Society`s coach trips back in the `70s.I first met him on one back in `74. Many of us owe our interest in the hobby to those trips, and therefore to Tony himself. Tony was a teacher back then and I think he thought of the coach trips as another way of assisting and encouraging the next generation................in this case to enjoy a hobby he loved. I knew Tony through Liverpool CAMRA and those of us on the local CAMRA committee were informed by Tony's brother earlier today. All we know was his brother could not contact Tony on Friday so called the police who entered Tony's house and found him. When we hear more I will post on here.

On behalf of the Friends of Liverpool Airport (FoLA) I wish to express how deeply shocked and saddened we all are at the untimely death of Tony Williams.
Tony was an integral part of FoLA and its 09/27 Newsletter with his enormous contributions to both. Tony, over numerous years, researched, produced and wrote the 'Scheduled Airline News' and 'Scheduled Flight Tables' sections for the Newsletter.
Personally, he was a joy to work with; with his submissions for the Newsletter always bang on time and meticulous in content and fact. Like many of us, I first came across Tony in the early 70s in his capacity as organiser for the MAS coach tours running from the Clubroom in Hangar 2.
He will indeed, be sadly missed.
Graham Ward (Editor 09/27 - FoLA)

I didn't know Tony personally, but it's always sad to lose a member under such circumstances, especially one who was so highly thought of. My condolences to his friends and family.

Very sorry to hear that Tony has passed away, Fortunate to have had a drink with him on a few occasions and also shared a post-match chat with him on our travel home from Anfield.
Condolences to his Family.
