Quite a development, wonder will it be temporary, anything to do with platform capacity at Lime Street this summer?

anything to do with platform capacity at Lime Street this summer? Dont know but I presume thats the reason. I also presume that the train will route back into Lime Street and then take its usual route to Blackpool via Huyton, St Helens, Wigan, Euxton, Leyland and Preston.

I think it is a train from Manchester taking it's usual route into Lime st, then instead of going back to Manchester it is heading to Blackpool, the reason it is direct is there is no need to change at Lime st. Can't see any other reason behind it.

Can't see any other reason behind it. Just checked and it definitely goes back into Lime Street and it carries on (as the 57" past the hour service) to Blackpool. The train arrives at LSP at 27" past the hour and then heads back at 36" past the hour.

How bizzare, seems a pretty strange route to have terminate at LSP, must be for operational reasons surely.

From information given at a number of meetings this service has been planned for some time (in conjunction with Merseytravel).
Whatever the underlying reason it is an expansion of service which should assist development of the LSP transport hub and improve access to/from the airport particularly for areas north of M62 and along M6 corridor.
Also gives further improvements in access for the South Liverpool and Liverpool City generally.

Once photobucket gets back up and running I will put up screenshots for the doubters. Photobucket is still down but Northern Rail have since uploaded its summer timetable and confirms the route to/from Blackpool and LSP. The Blackpool service, as I suspected, does start/finish at Liverpool South Parkway. For the doubters needing 'evidence' use the link www.northernrail.org/pdfs/timetables/20110522/20110522-Northern-Timetable10.pdf the station is even included on its route map.

The Blackpool to Liverpool South Parkway service has nothing to do with capacity issues at Lime Street. The extension to LPY (note not LSP) is simply using the layover time (40-45 mins) that the unit has at Lime Street.

Spot- on Childwall, also, it is hoped that this service will attract custom to the Airport from Wigan,Leyland,Preston and the Poulton areas. For anyone wondering about its routing into Lime St. from LSP, its planned the existing service from Man.Ox Road will run on the down fast line (plat.2) through West Allerton and Mossley Hill. The new Blackpool service is diagrammed to run non-stop into Lime St. on the down slow line (plat.4).This service should clear Wavertree Junc. before the stopping service and shouldnt in theory (lol) hinder the class 1 services from London/Birmingham etc. This service is also diagrammed for class 156 stock (bar a single 150 service).

It's a pity that the timetable number 10, from the link above, does not include the headline, 'Now serving Liverpool South Parkway for Liverpool Airport'. A rider could include the reminder to buy a through ticket to the airport including the bus link. The 501 bus schedule could have been an appendix, or times could even appear in the timetable.

www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/local/airport_rail_link_a_boost_1_3407938INTERNATIONAL tourists are set to be offered a direct link to Blackpool after a new resort rail-service was launched at one of the region’s busiest airports. Travellers flying into Liverpool John Lennon Airport will now have the option of hopping straight onto an hourly train to Blackpool North – while residents hoping to jet off for some sun will also benefit from the direct service. And the resort is hoping to capitalise on its latest European link-up and bring more tourists flocking to the town. Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “I welcome the link-up with another international airport and hope it will bring more international guests to Blackpool. “Now we’ve got this link I’ll be working to ensure we have a presence at the airport promoting Blackpool as a place to stay.” Trains from the town’s station will call at the new Liverpool South Parkway station as part of Northern Rail’s route between Blackpool North and Liverpool Lime Street. From there, passengers will be able to get straight to the airport using a new bus connection. And Blackpool North MP Paul Maynard said: “This is great news and I’m delighted. “It will allow people from Blackpool easier access to Liverpool Airport to take their well deserved summer holidays. “Also, it will allow people from Merseyside and those flying into Liverpool greater opportunity to explore all Blackpool has to offer. “I’d urge the Council to work with the Airport and the airlines who use it to market what Blackpool has to offer as Britain’s premier family holiday destination.” Gordon Marsden, Blackpool South MP, added: “I hope it will be beneficial both for residents of Blackpool using Liverpool John Lennon Airport but also people arriving there and wanting to visit Blackpool as part of their trip to the north west.” The new service will run hourly between Monday and Saturday from 9:37am until 2:37pm, with an additional service at 8:38am on Saturdays. Lee Wasnidge, area director for Northern Rail, said: “This new service will really open up the journey opportunities for thousands of people around the North West, with more connections to Liverpool John Lennon Airport” For more information visit www.northernrail.org.

I hope they improve the rolling stock.. i use this train often from Huyton to St Helens, OK its only one stop, but more often than not its a two coach shed, with standing room only.. no room whatsoever for baggage.. I doubt it would impress anybody from out of town.
