The late Tony Williams and I went to the Milk Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday 25th March 1984
The match wasn`t up to much and finished 0:0
Heathrow,however did much better;highlights being Il-62s SSSR-86534 and SP-LBC Westwinds N52SM and N3RL
BA still had Tridents in the fleet although their days were numbered having been largely replaced by Boeings.
For reasons that have now escaped me we also went to Gatwick. The log was poor but I did note a newly delivered British Caledonian A310 G-BKWU
I think BCal were the only British operator of the A310.They disposed of their small fleet within a couple of years. This sale has always been the subject of controversy as the planes went to Libya. It was considered a dangerous outlaw nation back then.Nothing much has changed!
A US embargo on exports to Libya had been flouted as they had GE engines. The A310s finished up registered elsewhere in North Africa(but flown by the Libyans anyway)..............much to American chagrin. The legal imbroglio involving various lessors and manufacturers(I think Caledonian themselves largely dodged the bullet)dragged on for years with the planes being grounded by the lawyers for long periods.
Football and planes......................planes win!!

I didn't get to Wembley but did go to the replay at Maine Road, and equally uninspiring affair but at least a Graeme Souness goal won it for the reds. What was interesting though, was that of all the 24 players involved, only one (Bruce Grobbelaar) was not from Great Britain or Ireland. How times have changed!

That night was our Apprentice Awards night at BAe Chester - the guest speaker was Bob Paisley who did not go to Maine Road but honoured his commitment to BAe. As a reds fan I always admired Bob, but he gained my utmost respect that night - and he sat signing autographs and chatting to us for about an hour after the presentations were over - great man.
Incidentally Kevmul - IIRC Craig Johnston played in both games - born in South Africa and eligible to play for Australia too

And here's me thinking Wikipedia is never wrong! English flag next to Johnston's name.
