Fantastic images guys, proper jets, defo not the green machines of today. Captured perfectly in the Miami heat, I can almost smell the kerosene fumes of that stunning National DC-10 Bob !

Cracking pics, I think the Caledonian livery suited it the best?

The picture of the Viasa brings back great memories of my honeymoon, this time of the year. Flew from Heathrow to Porlamar (an island called Margarita) via Orly. Came home 2 weeks later and the plane was decorated with Xmas decorations. Certainly a great aircraft to fly on but I think I prefared the Tristar, after all they had a problem with engines falling off!

Amarrahh, would I be right in suspecting that these are scanned from colour transparencies? If so, it is very likely that the majority of the distracting clutter of dust, dirt and hair is removable before scanning. Try a soft cloth used gently (the ones you get from Opticians with new specs are ideal) combined with a soft brush, even better a soft brush with a puffer or suction built in (often sold as a lens or camera sensor cleaner). For both prints and slides clean the glass on the copier paten and lid regularly, with as much dust as that, some will get left behind each time you change loads and 'infect' later scans and make the problem even worse! There have been a series of posts recently on the Liverpool 'Nostalgia' section regarding pre-cleaning and scanning slides and prints, and subsequent digital cleaning using Photoshop or Picasa.
Don't get me wrong, great pictures, but the viewing quality of image can be improved easily with a little attention to cleaning before and after scanning. With a little care and tlc at the scanning stage, old pictures don't have to look old and badly stored - even if they have been! Indeed the results of cleaning can produce startling good images.
