Hi Everyone
Not totally part of the forum but wanted to share with all the members anyway. Yesterday I attended the funeral of my wife uncle Squadron Leader Bill McGough. If you could say a funeral was good then it was. The day started with full military honours and guard of honour at the crematorium. We then moved to the service about Bill in his home village of Willersley (South of Birmingham) Then his story came out, he had been a mid upper turret gunner on Lancasters. Those of you old enough may recall he came and gave us a talk on his wartime exploits in the Brook House when were were MAS. He survived 32 missions over France and Germany in that conflict. He along with his Pilot are were the only two serving aircrew of the Lancaster, his pilot is to ill now to attend the funeral but sent a poignant wreath along with modern day 100 squadron.
No idea how it had been arranged but at 2.30 just before the service we had a very low flypast of a 100sqdn Hawk.
One hell of a way to go and a fitting tribute to the heroic young men who gave us the freedom we now have.
R.I.P. Bill sleep well in the big airfield in the sky.
Clive
