FoxEcho, For DHL you should read DLH-Lufthansa. Vanguard. You are quite correct, sorry for the typo, meant DLH, not DHL. Have edited to correct

On BBC NW TV news was a small feature on what happens at LPL once the wind direction changes and blows the ash towards northern Norway.
The airport Ops say they are rearranging stands and are to open taxiways to maximise space for aircraft parking and are to accept 'anything and everything'.

A number of log-haul flights have taken off from around the world hoping that they would be able to land in England after a 7pm ending of the flight ban. Unfortunately the ban has now been extended to 1am at the earliest. The Thomson aircraft are said to be now heading for Newcastle. Others may end up in Scotland.
Northwest Tonight have just shown Andy Gower preparing Liverpool Airport to accept any such flights, should Liverpool open before other UK airports. He was heard to say, 'We will not turn anybody away'. He explained aircraft could be parked on taxiways.
The film also showed that a new temporary search area with 2 x-ray machines has been exstablished, similar to that organised for the last Euro final airlift. This would help enable the airport to handle more people when all aircraft are departing full to clear the backlog of passengers.
It's good to see the airport staff's forward thinking, but I suspect some flights may not be as full as one might expect and I doubt if we will be lucky enough to receive any diversions.

Is or should it be are, the UK travellers now being penalised under the guise of a Safety matters. Looking at FlightRadar24 during today, considering Europe is supposed to closed it looks pretty busy to me, and has done for a couple of days now. Aircraft are taking off and landing in most countries, except of course one, the UK ? It also appears a lot of stranded passengers are getting angry at the treatment they are getting from Airlines and Tour Companies who seem to be refusing to help with even some basic needs, telling them that the first aircraft could be as long off as 9 days ? I suppose if the Government manages to keep thousands of Brits abroad and stranded around the world it could help voting figures

Germany is shut apart from a few hours and France as far south as Bordeaux is shut which is why LFC are heading there to pick up an aircraft to take them onto Madrid.
Spain has been open for all of this, apart from a few hours, as the wind has not taken the ash that far south.
From Thursday the wind is expected to turn from a northerly and switch to a south-westerly which will blow the ash towards the far north of Norway and the Artic.

A few BA flights now holding, presumably waiting for instructions where they should land. BA102 has been across UK airspace, 17 and 84 holding over the Isle of Man.
Qatar QR45 due into Manchester is over the North Sea, moving north.
Who knows what and where next?

Could I be cynical with this ? but could all these aircraft which are now being held and sent in various directions instead of landing at LHR being done as LHR has nowwhere to park them and prbably not the staff on duty to deal with such a sudden influx ?
