I flew with JAT as a kid to Split, from Heathrow. They were a pretty big airline with DC10s reaching Austraia. I flew on a Caravelle and a 727 with them.

Think they had a red tail and you sat raf style I.e. backwards. Or is it dementia and I am imagining this and memory has deserted me. Used to fly to Dubrovnik, I think pretty successfully for several years. However total memory there think you mean Aviogenex who had the red tail and used TU-134A's on flights from LPL to yugoslavia on behalf of yugotours. inex adria used DC-9 variants and operated the odd I.T. from here but mainly manchester in the 80's with DC-9'S & MD-82'S if memory serves me right. I knew I had got it wrong. Too many Inex's. Remember a 134 blowing up a ground power unit at Manchester. Some sort of power surge.

I think the TU 134s were good at land at rough runways. Also remember seeing Aviogenex at Liverpool too.

Their website says that Ljubljana - Frankfurt - Ljubljana is still operating whilst talks continue to find a buyer but the last day is today for this route. Fingers crossed they can sort something out.

I'll never understand airlines in trouble, surely the writing was on the wall when the route was announced.. Why do businesses bury their heads in the sand until its too late, continue to rack up debts, take money off the public when in all reality they know the end is coming...

Not been a good month for airlines ! Yet another lame duck for LJLA. Hardly called for. When was the last time a Liverpool operator (or planned operator in this case) went bust?

Flyglobespan is the only one that comes to mind. I think they'd pulled out of here before going bust though?
It's a real shame about Adria, seems unlikely anyone else would pick up such a route. Slovenia is a beautiful country but just doesn't seem to lure in the tourists like others in the region. On a positive note, anybody intent on heading to Ljubljana will probably still fly Liverpool to Venice (2hrs drive) rather than Gatwick/Stansted (4hr drive) to Ljubljana. London is now the only direct flight from the UK.

History shows that European nations never go long without national 'flagship' airline, be it state or private enterprise. Governments simply cannot permit this as it seriously affects trade, tourism and national reputation. Belgium, Switzerland, Greece and possibly Bulgaria immediately come to mind where a fresh, stronger, often smaller but certainly more focused operator has arisen to replace the failed 'legacy' operator, or in the case of Switzerland expanded to cover shortfall. All is not lost for Slovenia, but it may be some years before a North of England to Ljubljana link is re-established.
