With winter not too far away and predictions of a dire winter appearing in the tabloids, I thought I'd post a few photos taken at Speke during the winter months of the 1960s when winters seemed to be much colder... A regular visitor to Speke in the 60s on the Dublin route F-27 EI-AKA G-ASEN, still wearing most of it's Cathay Pacific colours after it had arrived on delivery to Starways. It later saw service with Icelandair. I can't remember the reason for the visit now, but a Noratlas was an unusual visitor in those days. I can't read the reg. on this, but this too was an unusual visitor. perhaps a ship's crew change? Down to the landing stage now, where HMS Centaur paid a visit on what were a cold and foggy couple of days in February 1963. I have posted them before, but thanks to Photobucket, they are no longer visible. Not the greatest quality, more JMW Turner than Kodachrome, but taken on a foggy and snowy day from what was obviously a very cold ferry boat! A full list of what was on board is shown on link, but a Gannet and a couple of Sea Vixens can be seen on the deck. I do not recall whether the ship was open to visitors, but Phil Butler managed to compile a lost of all the residents.

Garstonboy you forgot to mention (if my memory is right)"Echo November" arrived with one engine u/s Indeed it did and you jogged my memory. I think that’s why it ended up facing Banks Road. (Towed in rather than taxied in).
